To turn off JavaScript in Safari on an iPhone, open Settings > Apps > Safari > Advanced, then switch off JavaScript. You can return to the same screen and switch it back on if a website or Safari stops working as expected.
Turn off JavaScript in iPhone Safari
- Open the iPhone’s Settings app.
- Tap Apps, then Safari.
- Tap Advanced.
- Switch off JavaScript.
Apple gives this settings route in its iPhone Safari troubleshooting instructions, which describe turning JavaScript on; to disable it, switch the same control off. Menu labels or routes may differ on older iOS versions.

What changes when JavaScript is off?
Some websites may not work properly. Apple explains that websites use JavaScript for buttons, forms and other content, and warns that some sites may not work properly when it is disabled. Depending on the site, interactive features may stop working or parts of a page may fail to load. The effect varies by website; Apple does not provide a site-by-site compatibility list.

Go back to Settings > Apps > Safari > Advanced and switch JavaScript on. Apple lists enabling JavaScript as a troubleshooting step if Safari cannot load a website or quits unexpectedly.

JavaScript is separate from Safari’s privacy controls
Turning JavaScript off is not the same as enabling Safari’s tracking or fraudulent-site protections. Apple documents Prevent Cross-Site Tracking and Fraudulent Website Warning as separate controls. Content blockers are separate extensions that can block categories such as cookies, images, resources and pop-ups; they are not a substitute for the JavaScript switch. Apple describes JavaScript’s role and the possible site impact in its Safari security documentation. That explanation is general guidance about website behavior, not a guarantee that every iPhone site will respond in the same way.
