Hisense’s official manuals do not document a universal way to turn off Dolby Vision on its Smart TVs. The manuals say that when the TV receives a Dolby Vision signal, the picture mode switches to Dolby Vision. The format is therefore driven by the incoming signal, not by one switch that works on every model. What you can change depends on your exact TV model, operating system, firmware, region, and the device or app sending the picture.
Why the TV switches to Dolby Vision
Hisense’s E-Manual for the 9655GTV AM states: “When you use a Dolby Vision signal, the picture mode is Dolby Vision picture mode.” The E-Manual for the 9603GTV also covers how Dolby Vision signals behave on the TV. Both point to the same starting question: what is sending the signal? Before you change any picture setting, find out whether the Dolby Vision picture comes from a built-in app or from an external HDMI device.

Collect these details before changing anything
Hisense notes that menu labels and available options vary by model, operating system, and region. Write down the following before you look for a setting:

Platform alone does not decide the behavior. Hisense’s product pages for the 55U6N (Google TV) and 55U6SF (Fire TV) both list Dolby Vision support, which shows the format appears across platforms. Those pages do not give instructions for turning it off.

Picture settings you will see in Hisense manuals
Two picture-menu paths appear in different Hisense manuals:
- Settings > Display & Sound > Picture > General > Auto Picture Mode (one Hisense manual)
- Settings > Display & Sound > Picture > Apply Picture Settings (a different Hisense manual)
These are general picture controls. They do not establish a Dolby Vision off option that works on every model. If your TV’s menus use different labels, follow your model’s manual rather than these paths.

Changing the look versus stopping the signal
There are two different goals, and they lead to different answers. If you only want the image to look different, some models offer Dolby Vision picture controls that let you adjust the picture. That changes how the image appears, but it does not stop the TV from recognizing the format.
If you want the TV to stop switching to Dolby Vision, Hisense’s manuals do not describe a setting that does this for all models. Changing an ordinary picture setting does not necessarily stop the signal. Neither a replacement remote nor a new cable is established as a fix.

Troubleshoot by signal source
Built-in streaming app
- Note the app and the title that triggers the switch.
- Play the same title in a different app, if one is available. If the picture behaves differently, the stream from the first app is the likely cause.
External HDMI device
- Identify the device: a streaming stick, game console, disc player, or set-top box.
- Check that device’s own documentation for its video output settings. Hisense’s manuals do not cover settings on external devices.
- Keep a note of which device and input were in use, so you can tell the manufacturer or Hisense support exactly what you tested.
Dolby Vision 2 and firmware
On August 6, 2026, Hisense announced that Dolby Vision 2 was available on select Hisense televisions, with more models to receive it through firmware updates in the following weeks. The announcement does not say that Dolby Vision can be turned off, and it does not give a model-independent setting. If your TV is one of the newer models, check the software update screen and confirm whether the update changes your Dolby Vision options before you follow older menu guidance.

- Record your TV model number, operating system, firmware version, and sales region.
- Open the E-Manual for that exact model and search for “Dolby Vision” and “Picture mode.”
- If the manual lists Dolby Vision picture controls, adjust them to change how the image looks.
- If the picture switches only in one app or on one device, isolate that source and check its own video output documentation.
- If your model’s manual does not describe a way to change Dolby Vision behavior, contact Hisense support with your model and firmware details.
Be cautious with step-by-step guides that promise a universal switch. Hisense’s documentation does not support one.
