You can turn off automatic updates for individual apps on a Samsung Family Hub fridge. Samsung’s documented Automatic Update switch is in the Family Hub apps settings; it does not turn off updates to the Family Hub panel software. Samsung’s US guide provides a manual check-and-update path for the panel but does not show a separate automatic-update switch for it.

On the Family Hub display, open Apps.

Tap Settings.

Turn off the switch beside Automatic Update.
Samsung says Family Hub apps can then be updated manually with Update All. Its US support guide describes the automatic app-update schedule as 7:00 a.m. daily when an update is available; that schedule is for apps, not the refrigerator panel software. Samsung’s Family Hub software guide documents these app controls.

App updates and panel software are separate
The app switch does not disable all software updates for the refrigerator. Samsung describes Family Hub panel software as receiving periodic updates for features and bug fixes, with a separate manual check path:

The cited US guide explains how to check for and manually start a panel update; it does not document an automatic panel-software toggle. Samsung’s US SmartThings connection guide says a connected refrigerator can receive software updates, but does not establish a universal automatic firmware-update setting.

What to know about SmartThings and other models
Update controls can depend on the refrigerator model and region. Samsung Brazil’s Android instructions describe selecting a connected refrigerator in SmartThings and choosing Update device. That regional manual-update flow does not establish that every model or region has the same controls. Samsung Brazil’s SmartThings guide, last updated April 16, 2026, is specific to its context.
The explicit off-switch instructions here apply to Family Hub apps. The cited sources do not establish whether non-Family Hub Samsung refrigerators have automatic firmware updates or whether all regions expose the same options. For exact firmware guidance, identify the refrigerator’s model number and sales region, then consult the matching Samsung manual or support page.

Before postponing a Family Hub update
Updates may change features and companion-app workflows. Samsung notes that some Family Hub functions changed after software version 6.0 and that the older Family Hub mobile app was discontinued, with SmartThings used for some controls. Its version-specific guidance describes those changes but does not quantify the risks of delaying an update. Samsung’s Family Hub feature-change guidance explains the version-related changes.
