There is no single switch that removes every ad from a Samsung Galaxy. The fix depends on where it appears: notifications, a full-screen overlay, a browser, the charging screen, a personalized Samsung promotion, or the Home-screen feed. Start with the matching section below; settings and labels can vary by model, region, and One UI version.
Identify the kind of ad first
| What you see | Where to look | What the fix can do |
|---|---|---|
| An offer in the notification shade | Identify the app that sent the notification | Mute that app’s notifications; its in-app ads may remain. |
| A full-screen ad or an ad over another screen | Recently installed or active apps | Removing the source app may stop the overlay; there is no universal overlay switch. |
| A pop-up while browsing | Chrome or Samsung Internet settings | Restrict browser pop-ups or ads, not ads across the whole phone. |
| An ad on the lock screen while charging | Samsung Global Goals settings | Turn off that app’s charging-screen ad option. |
| A personalized Samsung promotion | Customisation Service and ad-personalization settings | Opt out of targeting; generalized ads may still appear. |
| News or Discover content on a Home-screen page | Home-screen feed settings | Remove or switch the feed panel, not ads shown by other apps. |
Turn off ads sent as notifications
When an ad arrives as a notification, identify its source before changing settings. Expand the notification shade and check which app sent it. You can also press and hold the notification to reveal its app or notification controls. Then mute notifications from that app or uninstall it if you do not want it on the phone. Samsung’s pop-up ads guidance explains these options.

- Open Settings > Notifications > App notifications.
- Select the app responsible for the alert.
- Turn off its notifications, or adjust the available notification categories if you want to keep some alerts.
The exact path can differ by One UI version. Samsung’s One UI 8 notification guidance covers notification management, but muting notifications does not necessarily remove ads inside the app.
Investigate full-screen ads and screen overlays
An ad that suddenly covers the Home screen, Lock screen, or another app is a reason to investigate apps, not proof that Samsung put the ad there. Samsung support says unexpected lock-screen ads commonly come from third-party apps or browser settings; its Saudi Arabia page states, “Samsung does not place ads on the lock screen.” Read that as Samsung’s support guidance, rather than a guarantee about every possible source on every device. See Samsung’s lock-screen ad troubleshooting page.

- HELP THAT KEEPS UP: Stay in the moment while Now Nudge with Galaxy AI helps you respond faster and stay organized with smart suggestions⁵ that appear exactly when you need them on your phone
- Think about apps installed or used shortly before the ads began.
- Uninstall a likely source app, then watch to see whether the ads stop. If they continue, investigate another recent or active app rather than assuming one removal must solve it.
- If an overlay makes it hard to use Settings, Samsung recommends trying Safe mode to help troubleshoot third-party apps. Follow the instructions for your Galaxy model in Samsung’s pop-up ad guide.
Do not treat disabling a notification as equivalent to removing an app: it stops that app’s alerts, not necessarily its full-screen ads.
Block pop-ups in Chrome or Samsung Internet
Browser controls help with ads and redirects encountered while browsing. They are not a system-wide ad blocker and do not establish that in-app ads will be removed.

Stop Samsung Global Goals charging-screen ads
If the ad appears on the Lock screen only while the phone is charging, check whether Samsung Global Goals is installed and its charge-screen option is enabled. Open Samsung Global Goals > Settings and turn off the charging-screen ads option. Depending on region, Samsung labels it “Charge screen ads” or “Global Goals whilst charging.” See Samsung’s UK instructions and its Global Goals app guidance.
Reduce personalized Samsung promotions
If you mean targeted promotions rather than pop-ups, look for Settings > Privacy > Customisation Service. Depending on your region and software, turn off Customise this phone and Customised ads and direct marketing, then use the Ads personalization opt-out if it is offered. Samsung documents regional settings in its Galaxy ads guide.

This is an opt-out from targeting, not a promise of zero ads. Samsung Electronics’ 2025 Sustainability Report says users who turn off targeted advertising receive generalized ads instead. These Samsung controls should not be understood as disabling third-party advertising in every app.

If by “ads” you mean the content feed on a Home-screen page, Samsung US says to touch and hold a blank area of the Home screen, swipe to the farthest page, then use the switch to turn off Samsung News and Google Discover or choose the feed you prefer. Regional availability and wording can vary. This changes the feed panel; it does not remove ads shown by other apps. See Samsung’s Home-screen feed instructions.

If the setting is missing
- Check the Galaxy model and One UI version; a path or feature may not be available under the same name on every device.
- Use the symptom to choose the right control: notification settings for app alerts, browser settings for browser pop-ups, and app troubleshooting for overlays.
- If the issue persists after the relevant change, reconsider the source rather than applying unrelated ad settings. A feed toggle, for example, will not stop a charging-screen ad.
