To turn off a Samsung Work Profile without deleting it, pause it: switch off Pause work apps in the app drawer’s Work tab, or tap the Work tile in Quick Settings. Pausing keeps the profile on your phone so you can turn it back on later.
Pause the Work Profile from the app drawer
- Open the app drawer and tap the Work tab.
- Switch off Pause work apps.
Google documents this route for Android 7.0 and later. The control pauses the profile; it does not remove it. Google’s instructions for pausing or turning on a Work Profile note that steps can vary by device.

Pause it from Quick Settings
- Swipe down from the top of the screen. Swipe down again if needed to expand Quick Settings.
- Tap the Work tile. A dimmed tile indicates that the profile is paused; an illuminated tile indicates it is running.
If you do not see the Work tile, open Quick Settings’ edit controls and check whether you can add it. The tile and edit options are not available in the same way on every device. The Work tab in the app drawer is the other documented route.
What changes while the profile is paused
Work apps stop running and cannot be accessed, and they do not send notifications or use data and battery while paused. Work widgets are also inaccessible. Your Work Profile remains available to turn on again; pausing is different from removing the profile or remotely wiping it. Google describes the effect as temporarily disabling work apps and notifications so you can use the device without work interruptions. Turn the Work Profile back on
Use the same controls: turn on Pause work apps in the app drawer’s Work tab, or tap the Work tile in Quick Settings. If the setting or tile is unavailable, device labels and controls may differ, and your organization may manage access to them.
Company-owned phones may enforce a pause limit
On a company-owned device, an IT administrator can limit how long the Work Profile stays paused. Google warns that exceeding the configured limit may suspend access to personal apps and data until you turn the profile back on. If your phone disables the control or enforces a limit, contact your organization’s IT administrator rather than trying to bypass device management. Google explains that organizations can enforce policies on managed devices.

Samsung’s business guidance describes Work Profile deployment through an organization’s enterprise mobility management (EMM) solution, rather than a single Settings menu shared by all Galaxy phones. Samsung interface details can therefore differ by device and management setup. Samsung’s business overview, published March 31, 2026, discusses organizational setup; Microsoft Intune’s Android Work Profile guidance also shows a Samsung-specific interface example.
