Hold the Power/Side key and Volume Down together until the power menu appears. Tap Power off, then confirm. This turns the phone off through its normal menu; it does not remove the screen lock. Button behavior can vary with the Galaxy A03 variant and software version, and Samsung’s general instructions do not guarantee that every version will allow shutdown without requesting a credential.
Power off a responsive Galaxy A03 from the button menu
- Press and hold the Power/Side key and Volume Down at the same time until the power menu appears. Samsung describes this combination for Galaxy devices that use a Side key for power controls. Samsung’s power-on and power-off instructions explain that button behavior varies by model.
- Tap Power off.
- Tap Power off again if the phone asks you to confirm.
The A03 is part of Samsung’s SM-A035 model family; Samsung’s model support listing includes manuals for Android 11 and Android 12. The available general Galaxy instructions do not establish whether every regional model or software build will show the same menu or ask for a screen-lock credential. If the A03 is frozen or the menu will not open
Use the button combination as a forced shutdown or restart: press and hold the Power/Side key and Volume Down until the phone shuts down or restarts. Samsung says this can take up to 60 seconds. It is a recovery step for an unresponsive phone, not a normal menu shutdown or a way to bypass the screen lock. Samsung’s troubleshooting instructions cover Galaxy devices that will not turn off.

Button layouts differ, so check the instructions for your particular A03 variant rather than assuming every model uses the same controls. What a password-free shutdown does—and does not—do
Powering off does not unlock the phone, change its PIN or password, or remove its security settings. If the normal menu asks for a credential and will not proceed, the cited Samsung instructions do not establish a credential-free workaround for every Galaxy A03 software and region combination. Avoid treating a forced restart, recovery procedure, or factory reset as an equivalent way to shut down the phone.
After a reboot, a phone secured with biometrics may require its backup PIN or password. Samsung Support states that a device secured with a biometric feature requires the backup password or PIN after rebooting. Samsung’s shutdown troubleshooting page includes this guidance.
