Move the Samsung remote’s Volume control down to lower the sound. Move it up to raise the sound; pressing the control may mute the TV instead.
Lower the volume with the rocker
Find the control marked VOL or Volume. On many slim Samsung Smart Remotes, it is a small rocker or movable button rather than two separate keys. Move it downward to reduce the sound and upward to increase it. Samsung describes the control this way: “Move the Volume button up or down to increase or decrease sound.” Samsung Support

Pressing the control is a separate action and can mute the sound. If a press mutes the TV, move the control up or down to adjust the volume instead. Button placement and behavior can differ by remote model.

If moving Volume has no effect
- Check the remote. Try another button, check the battery or charge state, and make sure no button is stuck.
- Check the connection. A Smart Remote may need to be paired again if it has lost its connection. Pairing combinations vary by model; Samsung’s instructions for some models use Power and Volume Up, but check the manual for your TV and remote before trying a button sequence. Samsung Support
- Reset a battery-powered remote if needed. Samsung’s U.S. troubleshooting instructions recommend removing the batteries and holding Power for eight seconds. Samsung Support
- Check the audio setup. Try the control across different TV apps and sources. If the remote adjusts a soundbar or another external device, check that device’s setup too.
When the remote adjusts a soundbar
The volume control may be changing the external audio device rather than the TV speakers. Samsung says a compatible soundbar can be controlled and muted with the TV remote when the TV’s Sound Output is set to that soundbar. If the remote is missing or broken
Match a replacement to the TV
Search Samsung’s parts site using the TV or projector’s model number to find a replacement remote for that device. A remote that looks similar is not necessarily the right match. Samsung Support
Consider a universal remote
Samsung says most universal remotes work with its TVs or projectors, but check that a specific remote explicitly supports Samsung. A universal remote may not provide every Samsung device feature, and setup instructions depend on its manufacturer and model. Samsung Support Samsung Support
