Exporting alone does not make a model ready for your printer: you still need to confirm its dimensions, build-area fit, orientation, and supports.
1. Generate a model suited to the object you want to print
Meshy’s 3D-printing workflow guide describes creating a model from a text prompt or an image using Image to 3D. For its photo workflow, Meshy suggests an image at least 1024 × 1024 pixels, with a plain background, the entire subject visible, and the subject filling 70–90% of the frame. These are Meshy’s input suggestions, not requirements for every image-to-3D service.

Think about printability while choosing the subject. A model with delicate projections, thin walls, or unsupported overhangs may need adjustment, supports, or a different orientation later. A successful generation is not proof that the geometry will print as intended.
2. Optimize and repair the mesh
Remesh only if the model needs it
If the file is unwieldy or difficult for your slicer to handle, Meshy recommends using Remesh and aiming for 20K–50K faces. Meshy presents this as a way to keep file sizes manageable and improve slicer performance while retaining detail at print scale; it is not a universal polygon limit. Avoid reducing detail unnecessarily, especially on small features you want to preserve.

Run Printability Check, then repair flagged issues
Use Meshy’s Printability Check to look for non-manifold edges, holes or open loops, non-watertight geometry, degenerate faces, and loose geometry. If it flags defects, Meshy offers Repair Printability. Recheck the result rather than assuming a repair fixed every problem.
A mesh check does not decide whether the model is the right size, whether its walls are strong enough, whether it needs supports, or whether its orientation works for your particular printer. Meshy reports that 97% of generated character and figurine models in its own testing sliced successfully with zero manual fixes after auto-repair. The cited help article does not provide the test method, so treat that as a vendor-reported result for that model group, not a guarantee for your model or an independently verified success rate.

3. Decide whether to split the model
Use Auto Split only when there is a practical reason, such as a model that exceeds your printer’s build area, parts that benefit from separate color sections, or a need to orient pieces differently. Meshy says the feature detects natural boundaries and caps the resulting pieces. Its workflow guide describes Auto Split as available only for untextured draft models and costing 10 credits; availability and credit terms can change, so check Meshy’s current eligibility and account details.
Meshy’s guide gives 200–260 mm as a typical printer build-volume range, but individual machines differ. Check the usable build dimensions for your own printer and the sliced part, rather than relying on a typical range. Splitting also creates multiple pieces that may need to be assembled after printing.

4. Set the model’s real-world dimensions
Before downloading, use Meshy’s resize tool to set the dimensions you intend to print. Then confirm the size again in your slicer: imported scale and units should match your target measurements, and the model must fit within the printer’s usable build area. If you need a particular fit or functional part, verify critical dimensions in the slicer before printing.
5. Choose an export format for your slicer
The right format depends on whether you need plain geometry or want to preserve color, materials, or separate-part information. Meshy’s format guide compares STL, 3MF, and OBJ; its workflow guide also lists OBJ and GLB for resin printing and visual reference.

Meshy lists Bambu Studio, Cura, OrcaSlicer, Creality Print, Elegoo Slicer, Ultimaker Cura, and Lychee Slicer in its workflow guide, and also lists PrusaSlicer on its 3D-printing page. These are vendor-stated compatibility details; check the current software version and your printer workflow before relying on a particular feature. Meshy says one-click sending to Bambu Studio is available on paid plans.

6. Import, orient, and slice the file
- Open the export in a compatible slicer. Import the format you chose and confirm the model appears as expected.
- Check scale and build-area fit. Compare the displayed dimensions with your intended real-world size and ensure the model fits the usable build area.
- Orient the part. Meshy recommends placing a flat surface on the build plate where possible. Choose an orientation that suits the geometry and reduces unsupported areas.
- Review supports and settings. Meshy suggests supports for overhangs greater than 45°, a 0.2 mm standard layer height (or 0.1 mm for finer detail), and at least 0.8 mm wall thickness for FDM. Treat these as starting suggestions, not universal standards: printer, nozzle, material, orientation, and intended strength all affect suitable settings. Follow the guidance for your machine and material.
- Inspect the layer preview. Check for missing or unexpectedly thin sections, unsupported features, and areas that do not appear to be built as intended before sending the job to the printer.
Meshy’s guide names Bambu Studio, Cura, OrcaSlicer, Creality Print, Elegoo Slicer, Ultimaker Cura, and Lychee Slicer as compatible options; its printing page also lists PrusaSlicer. Compatibility and direct-send availability can change with software and account versions, so confirm current details with Meshy and the slicer you use.
