Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor a faster, more reliable Firefox experience, first identify what is slow or misbehaving, then change one relevant setting at a time. Firefox includes built-in tools for checking tab and extension resource use, plus settings for performance, privacy, and startup. The title’s Firefox 141 framing is historical: Mozilla’s enterprise release notes for version 141 were dated July 21, 2025. Use the latest supported Firefox version available for your device, and expect menu labels to vary by operating system, release, and distribution channel.
Start with the symptom, not a list of hidden tweaks
Before changing settings, note what you are trying to fix: slow startup, one sluggish website, high CPU or memory use, video or display trouble, or a privacy concern. Update Firefox using the update controls available in your version, restart it, and reproduce the problem. A setting that helps one specific issue may have no benefit—or may cause a new problem—elsewhere.

Mozilla’s support pages describe diagnostic procedures and settings, not controlled benchmarks showing how much faster a particular change will make Firefox. There is no evidence here for a universal speed percentage or a single fastest configuration. Avoid arbitrary about:config edits and fixed content-process counts; change one thing at a time and revert it if the symptom gets worse.

Firefox uses too many CPU resources
Open about:processes in the address bar to inspect process performance. Firefox’s task manager can also show resource use associated with tabs, extensions, and processes. If one tab or extension stands out, close that tab or temporarily disable that extension, then check whether the CPU load changes. Mozilla’s troubleshooting guidance explains these diagnostic options at Firefox Task Manager.
#1 Best Overall
- No more exposed information in unprotected notary journals. This product shields clients' confidential information from prying eyes. It allows the Notary Public to keep the journal open during the transaction, as NO prior client information is viewable.
- Shields clients' AND Notaries Public' confidential information
- GLBA and HIPAA require strict confidentiality policies and procedures. Notary Privacy Guard is a compliance tool for the professional Notary Public.
- Decreases Notary Public's liability from exposing client information
- Journal column headers are printed on the Notary Privacy Guard, no having to peek underneath to complete the journal entry. Becomes part of the journal and also acts as a place marker.
Check memory use
Open about:memory to inspect Firefox memory use. Compare what you see with the symptom: a single tab that grows unusually heavy, many active tabs, or an extension may point to different next steps. These pages help narrow the cause; they do not by themselves prove that a particular setting will improve performance.
Use Troubleshoot Mode to isolate add-ons and graphics issues
Troubleshoot Mode is a temporary diagnostic, not a permanent configuration change. Mozilla says it disables add-ons and themes and turns off hardware acceleration for the session. If the problem disappears in this mode, investigate those components individually; if it persists, look beyond them.
- Open the Firefox menu and choose Help, then Troubleshoot Mode or the similarly named option shown in your release.
- Confirm the restart into Troubleshoot Mode when prompted, then reproduce the problem.
- If performance improves, restart Firefox normally and test extensions, themes, or graphics acceleration one at a time to identify the relevant cause.
- If the issue remains, continue with the symptom-specific checks below rather than assuming an add-on is responsible.
Menu wording and availability can differ across operating systems and Firefox versions. Mozilla’s procedure is described in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

Test hardware acceleration only when graphics symptoms point to it
Hardware acceleration lets Firefox use the GPU for graphics-heavy content such as video, games, and animation, which can reduce CPU load. It is not a universal speed switch. Mozilla lists flickering, video playback problems, high GPU temperature, and graphics-driver crashes among cases where turning it off can help diagnose a problem.
- Open Firefox settings and find the Performance section. The exact path and labels may differ by version and operating system.
- Change the hardware-acceleration setting only if you are investigating a relevant graphics or playback symptom.
- Restart Firefox as directed, then repeat the same activity and compare behavior.
- Keep the change only if it addresses the symptom; otherwise restore the earlier setting.

Fix a slow startup by checking what opens with Firefox
Firefox takes a long time to start up
Mozilla’s startup guidance identifies a complex homepage, extensions or themes, and antivirus scanning as possible causes. The article dates from 2022, so treat these as useful checks rather than a complete diagnosis for every current system.
Rank #3
- Used Book in Good Condition
- Temporarily use a blank or default homepage to see whether a complex startup page is contributing to the delay.
- Use Troubleshoot Mode to check whether an extension or theme is involved, then isolate any likely add-on in normal mode.
- If the slowdown began after an antivirus change, consult that antivirus vendor rather than disabling protection as a general optimization.
See Mozilla’s Firefox takes a long time to start up guidance for its startup checks.
Clear only the browser data relevant to a page problem
Cookies, site data, and cached web content are not interchangeable with Firefox’s startup cache. Clearing cookies or site data can sign you out or affect a website’s saved state, so select only the data you are willing to remove. Clearing cached web content can help with some page-loading problems, but it is not a general performance guarantee.
For certain interface problems, Mozilla separately offers a Clear startup cache action. Its support article says this does not remove profile data or add-ons. Use the procedure that matches the symptom; do not clear all browser data simply because Firefox feels slow. Mozilla explains these options in Clear cookies and site data in Firefox and How to clear the Firefox startup cache.

Choose privacy and data-collection settings deliberately
Control diagnostic data sharing
Mozilla describes technical and interaction data as including performance details such as page-load times and memory use, plus general device, browser-version, and hardware information. Mozilla says this data does not include browsing history, search queries, or saved passwords. That is more precise than saying Firefox collects nothing.
In desktop settings, Firefox offers controls for technical and interaction data, studies, daily usage pings, automatic crash reports, and remote improvements. Mozilla says changes save automatically. Leaving some diagnostics enabled can help Mozilla investigate bugs and performance; you can choose which controls to allow. Find the controls and their explanations in Share data with Mozilla to help improve Firefox.
Keep tracking and connection protections in view
Enhanced Tracking Protection and HTTPS-Only Mode are among Firefox’s privacy and security features. Advanced fingerprinting resistance can also cause compatibility problems. If a particular website stops working, diagnose that site-specific issue instead of broadly weakening protections across all browsing. Firefox’s support index describes these protections and related help topics at Firefox privacy and security.
Make changes in a reversible order
| Goal or symptom | First step | Type of change and trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| High CPU or memory | Inspect about:processes, the task manager, or about:memory. |
Diagnostic; identify a tab, extension, or process before changing configuration. |
| Possible add-on or theme conflict | Test in Troubleshoot Mode. | Temporary diagnostic; add-ons and themes are disabled for the test. |
| Flickering, playback, or GPU trouble | Test hardware acceleration off, then restart and compare. | Reversible performance setting; GPU use and behavior may change. |
| One page will not load or display correctly | Try targeted clearing of relevant cookies, site data, or cached content. | May affect sign-ins or site state; clear only data you accept losing. |
| Interface problem | Consider Mozilla’s Clear startup cache procedure. | Separate cache action; Mozilla says profile data and add-ons remain unchanged. |
| Privacy preference | Review data-sharing, tracking-protection, and HTTPS-Only controls. | Privacy and compatibility choices; a site issue may require targeted diagnosis. |
For any lasting setting change, record the original state, alter just one control, and repeat the same task. That makes it easier to tell whether the change helped and to restore the prior behavior if it did not.
