What Borderless Gaming does—and what it does not
Borderless Gaming provides the interface for downloading and configuring the effect. The effect itself is DLSS5-NR for Borderless Gaming, a separate community project whose README describes it as “DLSS5 Neural Rendering ported to BGFX.” It does not come built into Borderless Gaming.

That distinction matters: installing this effect does not give a game native DLSS 5 integration. It is a third-party rendering effect applied through Borderless Gaming, so its appearance and performance can differ from game to game and with graphics settings. TechRadar’s report describes the same approach and cautions that results vary: TechRadar, 1 October 2026.
How to install and enable the DLSS5-NR effect
- Install Borderless Gaming from Steam.
- Open Borderless Gaming’s effects editor.
- Choose Install from GitHub and paste https://github.com/andrewmd5/bgfx-dlss5-nr.
- Select the DLSS5-NR preset and enable effects.
- On Windows, set scaling to GPU, as directed by the project README.
- Start with the included settings, then adjust them to suit the game and the look you want.
The developer says Borderless Gaming handles downloading and setup for this route, without manual DLL copying, game-file changes or extra tools. That is the project’s own description, not an independent verification. Check the README for current instructions and compatibility notes before trying it.

What to expect from compatibility and performance
There is no guarantee that the effect will work equally well—or at all—in every game. Image quality and performance depend on the game and settings, and this is not a controlled comparison with native DLSS 5 support.
TechRadar relays the developer’s claim of broad GPU compatibility and an example of around 30 fps on an RTX 3090. That figure is a developer-reported example in the 1 October 2026 report, not an independently tested benchmark or a result readers should expect from their own systems. The available report does not establish that a particular GPU upgrade is required, or that the effect generally improves frame rates.

How to judge whether it is worth trying
Treat DLSS5-NR as an optional community experiment, not a substitute for support built into a game. If you try it, assess it in the specific game you care about: check whether it launches and renders correctly, compare the image at your usual settings, and watch performance while the effect is enabled. Native integration and a third-party effect are not interchangeable; the latter’s behavior and results can vary.
