If a PC game stops launching after a DRM or launcher change, first identify what changed and check the relevant service and account before reinstalling anything. A file repair can fix damaged or mismatched game files, but it cannot resolve a server outage, a sign-in problem, or a game’s separate online-authorization requirement.
Start by locating what changed
“DRM change” can refer to different things: a game update, a storefront or publisher launcher update, an account sign-in change, or a change to online authorization. Those components need different fixes. A failure after a change does not, by itself, prove that the game’s files or DRM system caused it.

Before changing settings, note the game title, storefront, any publisher launcher it uses, the exact error text, your operating-system version, when the game last worked, and what changed most recently. Also check whether other games in the same launcher fail. If several titles stop launching, that points toward a client, account, service, or local software issue rather than a problem isolated to one game.
Check services, updates, and sign-in first
Check the relevant storefront or publisher service status and install any available launcher updates. Epic includes service status and launcher updates in its troubleshooting guidance, and EA advises checking server status and connection issues (Epic Games Launcher troubleshooting; EA app troubleshooting). If a service is down, wait for it to recover rather than repeatedly reinstalling the game.

Confirm that the launcher is signed into the account that owns the game and that the title appears in that account’s library. Then check whether the game still requires a publisher launcher, an active internet connection, or online authorization. Requirements vary by game; a storefront’s offline mode does not remove a separate launcher or connection requirement. Steam says games requiring an active connection or an external launcher will not work in Steam Offline Mode (Steam Offline Mode).
Repair files in the launcher that manages the installation
Use the storefront’s built-in verification or repair function for the installed copy. If a separate publisher launcher is involved, use the launcher appropriate to the copy you installed; Ubisoft, for example, directs players to verify Ubisoft Connect games there, and Steam or Epic copies in their respective launchers (Ubisoft Connect file verification).

Epic Games Store
- Open Library.
- Open the game’s three-dot menu and choose Manage.
- Select Verify and let the check finish before trying to launch again.
Epic says verification repairs files that differ from the expected version and does not affect saved data (Epic game file verification).

Steam
Run Steam’s Verify Integrity of Game Files check for the affected game. Follow Steam’s launch troubleshooting guidance if verification does not resolve the problem (Steam file verification guidance; Steam game launch troubleshooting).
Test local software conflicts reversibly
If the game still fails, try temporary changes that are easy to undo. For an EA game, turn off the EA in-game overlay and test the launch; EA notes that the overlay can sometimes cause a game to crash. Close nonessential background applications, and check for operating-system and graphics-driver updates using the relevant official update channels (EA app troubleshooting).

Change one thing at a time and test again, so you can tell which change matters. Restore settings that did not help. Do not delete save data or download replacement executables from unofficial sites; neither is an established fix for a launch failure after a DRM-related change.

When to contact the game’s support team
If service, sign-in, file repair, and reversible conflict checks do not solve the problem, contact the game’s official support. Include the game title, storefront and publisher launcher, exact error text, operating-system version, recent game or launcher change, when the issue began, and whether other games in the same client launch. Steam’s launch guidance directs players to the game’s support team when the listed troubleshooting steps do not resolve the failure (Steam game launch troubleshooting).
