To troubleshoot lag on a China-region game server, first identify whether you have high, steady ping, ping spikes, packet loss, disconnects, or visual stutter. Then check the game’s service status, compare another game or internet service, and test the same session over Ethernet with other network-heavy activity paused. A server described as being in China does not establish where you are connecting from, which route your traffic takes, or what is causing the delay.
Identify what kind of lag you are experiencing
“Lag” can describe several different symptoms, and each points to a different line of investigation:

- Consistently high ping: Round-trip network delay between your computer and the game server. Riot Games Support notes that, when a connection is otherwise working normally, physical distance to its game servers is the largest contributor to latency. That is Riot-specific guidance, not a measurement of your route to a China server. Riot’s connection guide.
- Ping spikes or jitter: Latency that varies over time. A session can feel unstable even if its average ping looks acceptable.
- Packet loss: Network packets fail to arrive, which can cause interruptions or erratic gameplay.
- Disconnects: The game loses its connection; check both game-service notices and whether other services also disconnect.
- Visual stutter: Animation or frames hitching does not by itself prove a network problem. Check the game’s network indicators and consider whether the issue is local performance rather than connection delay.
Riot defines latency as the round-trip time for packets to travel between a player’s computer and its servers; jitter is variation in latency, while packet loss means packets do not arrive. Its guide explains these connection terms.

Check the game’s status and notices
Look at the publisher’s official status page or support notices for outages, maintenance, or known connection issues. If the game reports a service problem, changing home-network settings is unlikely to resolve that service-side issue.

Compare with other services
Try another online game or ordinary internet activity around the same time. If several services are slow or disconnecting, focus first on your Wi-Fi, router, shared network use, or ISP. If only one game is affected, investigate its selected region, server status, client, and support guidance. Riot groups connection trouble broadly into game service, ISP, and local software, environment, or equipment causes. League of Legends Support’s reconnect guidance covers these categories.
Keep the server selection in view
Confirm the exact game region or server shown in the client. The phrase “server in China” does not establish the physical server location, your connection’s route, or whether the selected region is the one you intended. Your own location, game, ISP, and current route all matter; without those details, no particular cause can be diagnosed.

Run controlled tests on your connection
Change one factor at a time where practical. Keep the game, selected server, and test period as consistent as possible so you can tell whether a result is meaningful.

Connect the computer to the router with Ethernet if possible, then repeat the same game/server test. If you need a cable to run the test, a Cat6 cable is one option; the cable enables a wired comparison, not a guaranteed lag cure. Riot Games Support says wireless interference can cause lag spikes or packet loss. Ethernet can help isolate Wi-Fi issues, but it cannot eliminate physical-distance delay or every upstream routing problem. Riot’s PC connection guidance.
- Pause competing network activity. Temporarily pause large downloads, game updates, video streams, and other network-heavy apps. If other people share the connection, ask them to pause heavy use briefly, then compare the game’s ping stability and loss indicators. Riot notes that heavy use can add load, especially on shared connections. League of Legends Support’s reconnect guidance.
- Test without a VPN or proxy. If you use one, disconnect it and repeat the test unless the game’s support team has specifically asked you to perform a routing test. A VPN or proxy is not a general-purpose ping fix; Riot advises against using one to connect to its game servers except for support-directed routing tests, and notes that cross-region VPN access can involve lag spikes. - Use the game publisher’s own repair guidance. Follow instructions that apply to your game and platform. For Riot games, support guidance includes checking network drivers and firewall settings and collecting logs if the issue persists. Avoid changing unrelated settings without a reason. Interpret what the tests can—and cannot—tell you

Traffic can cross multiple backbone and ISP networks before reaching a game server. Riot’s technical explanation describes how interconnections and routing equipment can contribute to latency and packet loss, making upstream routing one possibility to investigate—not a diagnosis of any particular player’s China-server route. Escalate with evidence if the basic tests do not help
A concise, repeatable record helps game support or your ISP investigate the right connection and time period. Collect:
- The game and the exact region or server selected.
- Your country or general region, rather than only saying you are connecting to China.
- The date and time of the problem, including whether it is continuous or tends to happen at particular times.
- Whether you were on Wi-Fi or Ethernet and whether downloads, streams, or other shared use were active.
- The game’s ping, jitter, or packet-loss indicators, if it provides them, plus whether the symptom was spikes, loss, disconnects, or visual stutter.
- Whether other games or internet services were affected.
- Logs requested by the publisher, gathered using its instructions.
Check the publisher’s service notices and send the record and requested logs to game support. If several services are affected, contact your ISP with the destination or service and the observed time pattern; ask it to investigate rather than asserting a cause. Be cautious about China-specific fixes
There is no single ping range or universal routing condition that can be inferred from the words “servers in China.” The player’s location, the game’s actual region, ISP, and current route affect the result. A route issue is possible, but it needs evidence from the affected connection and cannot be established from the server label alone.

Huawei Cloud describes Global Accelerator as a service for routing game traffic from nearby access points over its backbone toward game servers, with the aim of reducing hops, latency, jitter, and packet loss. That is a description of a cloud service, not independent proof that it will help a particular consumer, game, route, or location; verify applicability and availability with the provider before treating it as an option.
