If a Google Workspace add-on will not install, authorize, appear, or open, first check that you are using the installation route for its type and app. Then refresh the file, review any OAuth or Marketplace message, and check whether your browser or organization policy is blocking it. The steps below help identify which issue you can resolve and when an administrator or the add-on developer needs to act.
Start by identifying the add-on and the right installation route
Google distinguishes Editor add-ons from Google Workspace add-ons. Their menus and where they appear differ, so installing or looking in the wrong place can make an add-on seem unavailable. Google explains the distinction in its add-ons guidance for Docs Editors and its Google Workspace Add-ons overview.

- Docs, Sheets, or Slides: For an Editor add-on, go to Extensions > Add-ons > Get add-ons. Workspace add-ons are accessed from the app’s right-side add-on interface.
- Forms: Open the form’s More menu and choose Add-ons.
- Gmail, Calendar, Chat, Drive, or a Docs, Sheets, or Slides file: The side panel may offer Get Add-ons. Use the route appropriate to the product and add-on.
Also confirm that the listing is available for new installations. Google says some older Editor add-ons that have not moved from the Chrome Web Store to Google Workspace Marketplace can no longer be newly installed, although people who already installed them may still be able to use them. If the listing is no longer offered for new users, retrying the same installation will not restore it.
If installation succeeded but the add-on is missing
Refresh the file and look in the correct place
For a Workspace add-on in Docs, Sheets, or Slides, refresh the current file after installation. Google specifically recommends this when the add-on does not appear in the sidebar. Then check the right sidebar for Workspace add-ons; for Editor add-ons, check Extensions > Add-ons. The location depends on the add-on type, not just the Google app.

If the add-on opens incorrectly
Check third-party cookie support when relevant
Google notes that some add-ons may not work correctly unless the browser supports third-party cookies, and provides guidance for allowing them temporarily. Treat this as an add-on- and browser-specific possibility, not a universal fix: check the setting when the add-on’s behavior or its developer’s instructions point to it, rather than changing browser privacy settings indiscriminately.
If installation stops at authorization or a restriction message
Review the OAuth permissions
Marketplace installation can show an OAuth consent screen that identifies the app and the permissions it requests. Some apps request additional permissions for particular features. Review what access is being requested and authorize only if it is appropriate for the app and the feature you intend to use. Google describes the consent process in its Marketplace installation guidance.

Read the Marketplace message before trying again
Google documents messages indicating that an app is unavailable in your region, requires administrator installation, or requires a Google Workspace for Education license. These are eligibility or policy limits, not ordinary installation glitches.
- If the message says an administrator must install the app on a work or school account, contact your Workspace administrator.
- If the app is unavailable in your country or region, or the listing requires an Education license you do not have, repeated attempts with the same account will not remove that restriction. Check eligibility or contact the app’s publisher.

When a work or school account blocks the add-on
An organization can restrict third-party apps or OAuth access, even when the add-on is listed in Marketplace and your account can see it. If authorization cannot proceed or access remains blocked, ask your Workspace administrator to review the app’s access settings and the applicable user or organizational-unit controls. Google’s Admin Help for controlling app access to Workspace data describes access levels including Trusted, Limited, Specific Google data, and Blocked; a blocked app cannot access Google services under those controls.
Share the exact Marketplace or authorization message with the administrator, along with the app name and the account or organizational unit affected. This helps distinguish an organization policy from a regional or license requirement.

When to contact the add-on developer
If the correct installation route, refresh, relevant browser check, and any applicable account-policy review do not resolve a problem isolated to one add-on, use the developer’s support information. Google says Marketplace developers provide information about app features and links for getting started or contacting support; see its Workspace side-by-side and add-on help.
