If Fubo keeps buffering or shows a continuous spinning wheel, first check for a service issue, then refresh the stream and restart your app, device, and network equipment. If the problem continues, compare your connection with Fubo’s speed guidance and test another device or connection to narrow down the cause.
Start with the quickest checks
- Check Fubo’s service updates. Look at Fubo’s status page. If an issue is reported, changing your home setup may not resolve it until the service issue is addressed. [c001] [c002]
- Refresh the channel. Switch to another channel, then return to the one that is buffering. If the spinning wheel continues, fully close Fubo—or force-close it if your device offers that option—and reopen the app. [c001] [c002]
- Restart your device and network equipment. Restart the TV, streaming device, computer, or phone using its manufacturer’s instructions. Fubo recommends unplugging the router and/or cable modem for about a minute, then plugging it back in and allowing it to reconnect. [c001] [c002]
A brief loading indicator when a stream first starts is not necessarily the same problem as repeated buffering or a stream that stops and starts mid-program. If loading becomes continuous or playback repeatedly stalls, continue with the checks below.

Check whether your internet connection has enough speed
Run a speed test on the connection used by your streaming device, then compare the result with Fubo’s published recommended continuous speeds. These are Fubo’s guidance, not a guarantee against buffering; other activity on your connection can leave less bandwidth for Fubo.

Figures are Fubo’s published recommendations in 2026. Your household may need more capacity when multiple people stream video, play online games, or use other bandwidth-intensive services at once. - If the measured speed is below the recommendation for the resolution you are watching, reduce other network activity and test again. If the connection remains too slow, Fubo directs users to contact their internet provider. [c003] [c009]
- If you are using Wi-Fi, try moving closer to the router. If possible, test the same stream over Ethernet. A wired connection is a diagnostic comparison, not a guaranteed fix, and Fubo does not say that you need to buy new equipment. [c002]
Lower the video quality if your device allows it
Fubo normally adjusts video quality to match internet speed. Some supported devices provide a manual quality setting; lowering it can help test whether a high-resolution stream is contributing to interruptions. The control is not available on iPhone or iPad. [c004]
Because menu labels vary by device and can change, look in Fubo’s playback or video settings for a quality option. Choose a lower resolution, resume playback, and see whether the stream remains stable. If no such control appears, skip this step rather than searching for a setting your device does not support.

Compare devices and connection types to isolate the problem
- Try the same Fubo stream on another device connected to the same network. If it plays there, the issue is more likely confined to the original device or its Fubo app.
- If you are watching on cellular data, switch to Wi-Fi and test again. If you are already on Wi-Fi, try Ethernet when possible. [c002] [c008]
- If several devices buffer on the same home connection, check the measured speed and contact Fubo support if the issue persists. Fubo also directs users to their internet provider when their connection does not meet its speed guidance. [c008] [c009]
These comparisons help separate a problem affecting one device from one affecting the connection or service. They can also show whether changing connection type makes a difference without assuming that a new router, modem, or streaming device is needed.
Use a separate fix for VPN, browser, or HDCP errors
VPN or location-hiding proxy
A VPN or proxy used to alter or hide your location can prevent access to Fubo. Turn it off and try Fubo again if you use one. [c005]

Browser playback
If Fubo buffers or fails only in a web browser, update the browser and temporarily disable extensions that can interfere with playback, such as ad blockers. Test playback again before changing other network settings. Browser-extension troubleshooting applies to browser playback, not as a general Wi-Fi fix. [c006]
HDMI or HDCP compatibility message
If you see a protected-content or HDCP compatibility error, follow Fubo’s separate HDMI/HDCP troubleshooting guidance. That message is different from ordinary buffering; it does not establish that replacing an HDMI cable will fix a stream that simply keeps stopping and starting. [c007]

When to contact Fubo or your internet provider
- Contact Fubo support if buffering continues across multiple devices after the service check and basic restarts, or if the symptom appears specific to Fubo despite an adequate connection. [c008] [c010]
- Contact your internet provider if your measured connection does not meet Fubo’s speed guidance or remains unstable across services and devices. [c003] [c009]
When you ask for help, note whether the issue affects one device or several, whether you tested Wi-Fi, cellular, or Ethernet, the result of your speed check, and whether the problem is buffering or a specific browser, VPN, or HDCP error. This information points support toward the relevant cause.
