That choice determines where to manage payment details or cancel, and who handles a refund. If you were charged but Grok still asks you to upgrade, check that you are signed in with the account that made the purchase before treating it as a failed or duplicate payment.
Start by identifying the purchase channel
Grok consumer subscriptions can be purchased on the web or through a mobile app store. Use the channel shown on your receipt or statement—not the device you happen to be using now. The payment route also determines the refund route.

| Purchase channel | Where to manage payment or subscription | Where to request a refund |
|---|---|---|
| Grok web | Sign in at grok.com and open Settings → Billing. | xAI’s Refund Request form, signed in with the account used for the subscription. |
| Apple App Store | Apple’s subscription and purchase controls. | Apple handles App Store transaction refund requests. |
| Google Play | Google Play subscription management and cancellation controls. | xAI’s Refund Request form, signed in with the account used for the subscription. |
These routes apply to Grok consumer subscriptions. xAI API billing is separate and is managed in the xAI Console, even if you use the same sign-in. X Premium is also separate: X, not xAI, handles X Premium refund requests where required by law. X Premium help.
If a Grok web payment failed or you need to change the card
- Sign in to grok.com using the account that made the purchase.
- Open Settings → Billing and use the billing page to manage the subscription or update the payment method.
- If Manage Subscription does not open the billing portal, try an incognito window or another browser. xAI says ad blockers and other apps or extensions can block the button.
- If you still cannot access payment settings, contact xAI support through Grok or email [email protected].
The Grok FAQ does not publish Grok-specific decline codes or a fixed time limit for a pending card authorization. If your bank shows a declined or pending transaction, check the transaction status with the card issuer; do not assume it will clear on a particular schedule. Incorrect billing details, account limits, issuer restrictions on online purchases, or network-based verification issues are general possibilities to ask the issuer about, not a Grok-specific diagnosis. X lists some of these possibilities for X subscriptions, which is a separate service: X’s subscription payment help.

If you bought through Apple or Google Play
Use the store that processed the purchase for subscription controls. Apple handles App Store transactions and refund requests. For a Google Play purchase, manage or cancel the subscription in Google Play, but submit refund requests to xAI through its Refund Request form.
xAI says approved refunds for web and Google Play purchases are typically returned to the original payment method within 5–10 business days. This is xAI’s estimate for approved refunds, not a timetable for a pending authorization or a guarantee that every refund will take that long.

Charged, but Grok still asks you to upgrade?
Check that the web session or app is signed in with the same account used to buy the subscription. A purchase may not appear across web and mobile when they use different logins; that mismatch does not by itself mean you paid twice.

- An intuitive interface to easily accept payments and manage your sales.
- Strong, reliable Wi-Fi connection. Free SIM card and mobile data so you can process payments anywhere.
- Great battery capability with an additional charging station.
- A truly portable device. Stay in control of your business, wherever you go.
- Support when you need it. Get in touch with our US-based support through phone, email and chat.
- Confirm the subscription status in the app and, for an app-store purchase, in the store’s subscription list.
- Update the app, then sign out and back in with the purchasing account.
- Restart the app; if the mismatch persists, clear its cache or reinstall it.
These steps address an access or activation mismatch; they do not establish whether a card charge succeeded. If you can verify charges on two platforms, contact support to investigate and discuss the appropriate refund route.

Check the xAI status page while troubleshooting. It showed Grok web, iOS, and Android available with no incidents declared when checked on October 4, 2026; status can change. A clear status page cannot diagnose an individual transaction, card issuer, or app-store payment.
