What Error Code 4 means
The message reproduced by TheWindowsClub reads: “You have been disconnected from the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare servers. Please try again or visit https://support.activision.com/mwstatus for updates. Error Code: 4.” It describes a disconnect, not a diagnosis: it does not prove that Activision’s servers are down, nor does it identify a fault in your home network or game installation. Activision’s reviewed support content does not assign this code a specific current cause or official fix.

Check for service notices before changing settings
Start with Activision’s Warzone support page. Check its known-issues and connection guidance for current notices. When reviewed on October 7, 2026, the page listed “Known Issues in Call of Duty: Warzone,” updated September 25, 2026, and “Connecting to a Call of Duty: Warzone Game.” The page and its notices can change. The error’s reference to a status page is not itself confirmation of an outage.

Close and relaunch Warzone
Exit the game completely, then open it again and retry. If the game has frozen or crashed, Activision’s general Modern Warfare crash guidance recommends quitting the game and closing the application before restarting it; it says a console reboot may be needed in some instances. This is general crash advice, not a confirmed Error Code 4 fix.

Check your connection
Confirm your PC or console is online and retry after any local connection interruption. If other online services also fail, that is useful evidence of a broader local connectivity problem; if they work, it still does not prove the game service is healthy. A third-party guide recommends checking connectivity and server status, but no particular speed or ping is established as an official requirement or guarantee for resolving this code.
If you play on PC, verify the game files
A Windows troubleshooting article from 2023 recommends checking Warzone’s installation through the launcher. This is a reasonable maintenance step if service notices do not explain the disconnect, but it is not an Activision-confirmed fix for Error Code 4. Launcher labels may change.

- Steam: Use the game’s file-verification option in its library properties.
- Battle.net: Select the game and use Scan and Repair.
Allow the check to finish, apply any repair offered by the launcher, and retry the game.
Leave disruptive network changes until later
A 2023 third-party troubleshooting article also suggests changing DNS, running Windows network-reset commands, and temporarily disabling firewall or antivirus software. These are not confirmed Activision fixes for this code. They can change connectivity or reduce protection, so do not treat them as routine first steps. If you investigate network configuration, change one setting at a time and record the original value so you can restore it. Do not carry Windows commands over to a console.

Avoid casually turning off firewall or antivirus protection. If you have a specific reason to test a security setting, follow the security software’s instructions, keep the test brief, and restore protection immediately. Reinstalling the game is a last resort: it can take substantial time and bandwidth, and the reviewed sources do not establish it as an Error Code 4 remedy.

- On PC: Check official notices, restart the game, confirm connectivity, and consider launcher file verification before more disruptive network troubleshooting.
- On console: Restart the game and check the console’s connection using its normal settings. Consult Activision and the console platform’s support if the problem continues; Windows network commands do not apply.
- If several online services are affected: Investigate the local connection before changing Warzone settings.
- If only Warzone is affected: Recheck Activision’s known issues and connection guidance. That pattern alone still cannot establish the cause.
Activision’s linked crash article includes general PlayStation 4 and Xbox One crash guidance, but it is not a current, code-specific Warzone fix.
