How to Troubleshoot Crown Control Crashes, Launch Failures, and Low FPS on Steam

Use the correct Windows or macOS requirements, verify Crown Control’s Steam files, and work through general launch and performance checks without assuming a game-specific fix.

If Crown Control will not start, crashes, or runs slowly on Steam, first compare your computer with the game’s requirements for your operating system. Then work through Steam’s general checks: update Windows and graphics drivers on Windows, verify the game files, and temporarily close non-essential software. These are general troubleshooting steps—not confirmed fixes for a known Crown Control bug.

Check the requirements for your operating system

The Steam listing provides separate minimum and recommended specifications for Windows and macOS. Compare your computer with the correct column before changing settings; the listed requirements are not a guarantee of a particular frame rate or trouble-free operation. Steam cautions that games may fail to launch when a computer is just at or below their requirements.

Platform Minimum Recommended
Windows Windows 10; Intel Core i5-6600 or AMD Ryzen 3 1200; 4 GB RAM; NVIDIA GTX 750 Ti or AMD RX 560; DirectX 11; 250 MB available storage. Windows 10; Intel Core i5-9600K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600; 8 GB RAM; NVIDIA GTX 1060 or AMD RX 580; DirectX 11; 250 MB storage.
macOS macOS 12 Monterey; Apple processor; Apple M1 or Intel Core i5; 4 GB RAM; Apple M1 integrated graphics or Intel Iris Plus; 250 MB storage. macOS 13 Ventura; Apple processor; Apple M1 or Intel Core i7; 8 GB RAM; Apple M1 or AMD Radeon Pro 5300M; 250 MB storage.

These specifications are those listed for Crown Control on its Steam store page. If your computer is below the minimum in a relevant category, that may help explain launch or performance trouble; meeting the minimum does not establish that a particular setup will run well.

If Crown Control will not launch or crashes immediately

Steam’s launch guidance says a game that appears not to start may be crashing just after launch. Try the checks below in order, changing one thing at a time so you can tell whether anything affects the symptom.

  1. Check the operating system and hardware. Compare your Windows or macOS version, processor, memory, and graphics hardware with the appropriate requirements above. Note any category that falls below the minimum.
  2. Update the operating system and graphics drivers. On Windows, Steam recommends updating Windows and device drivers for launch failures. Use the normal Windows update route and the graphics-device maker’s driver update route. On macOS, check for available macOS updates through the usual system settings; the cited Steam launch guidance does not establish a macOS-specific driver remedy.
  3. Verify the installed game files in Steam. In Steam, open Library, right-click Crown Control, choose Properties, open Installed Files, and select Verify integrity of game files. Steam identifies corrupted game files as one possible cause of a game failing to start.
  4. Temporarily close non-essential software. Exit background applications that are not needed, then try launching the game again. Steam recommends disabling non-essential software as a general check; this does not mean turning off security protection wholesale.
  5. Record what happens if it still fails. Note the exact error message, operating system version, CPU and GPU, graphics-driver version if applicable, and whether the game crashes before or after its first window appears. Use the game’s support entry from its Steam Library page to contact the game’s support team if the general checks do not help.

These steps come from Steam’s general article on games that do not run after “Preparing to Launch”. They do not identify a particular Crown Control error or promise that one step will resolve it.

If the game starts but runs at low FPS or stutters

Steam Support says poor or reduced FPS can have many causes that are difficult to diagnose without examining the individual machine. Start by checking the requirements above, then use a simple comparison to see whether the issue changes with the graphics load.

  1. Check the resolution and graphics settings available in the game. Higher resolutions and settings can reduce FPS when a computer cannot handle them, according to Steam’s performance guidance.
  2. Lower one available setting at a time. Apply a change, play under comparable conditions, and observe whether performance changes. If it does not, restore that setting before testing another. This is a diagnostic approach, not a known optimal configuration for Crown Control.
  3. Keep track of the comparison. Note the setting changed and whether the slowdown improved, stayed the same, or worsened. If the problem persists, share those observations along with your system details when contacting game support.

Steam’s performance troubleshooting guidance recommends checking requirements and considering resolution and video settings, while noting that third-party games differ in their settings. The available information does not specify Crown Control’s graphics-menu options, measured FPS, or a setting combination that works best.

What not to assume

The Steam listing identifies Crown Control as a single-player action roguelite developed and published by GameDevMichael, released June 25, 2026, with Windows and macOS versions. The sources available here do not establish a title-specific known-issues list, crash or FPS bug, patch note, developer troubleshooting guide, or confirmed direct developer contact route. Avoid treating an error-code workaround, launch option, configuration-file edit, or particular driver update as a verified fix for this game.

Steam’s performance article mentions -autoconfig as an initial step for Valve-developed games. Because the store listing names GameDevMichael as Crown Control’s developer, that advice is not established as a remedy for this title. For unresolved problems, use the game’s support entry in the Steam Library and provide the details you recorded rather than assuming a general Steam suggestion diagnoses the cause.
