Use Sony’s built-in Data Transfer to move supported games, saved data, captures, account information, and selected console settings from your old PS5 to a PS5 Pro. You can start during the Pro’s initial setup or later at Settings > System > System Software > Data Transfer. Keep both consoles on the same network and prepare to sign in with the same PlayStation account.
What Data Transfer moves to the PS5 Pro
Sony’s PS5-to-PS5 transfer can copy user and account information, saved data for games playable on PS5, screenshots and video clips, games playable on PS5, and certain console settings—including language, login, and power-saving settings. Login passcodes from the source console transfer as well. Data already saved on the destination PS5 Pro is not transferred. Sony’s transfer guide lists the supported data and exceptions.
Prepare both consoles
- On the source PS5, sign in to the PlayStation account you will use on the PS5 Pro.
- Install the latest system software on the source console and synchronize your trophy information.
- Connect both consoles to the same network. Wi-Fi is supported; Sony says a LAN cable can make the transfer faster when the consoles would otherwise use Wi-Fi. The cable is optional and sold separately.
- Keep both consoles powered on throughout the process.
Transfer data during setup or afterward
- Start the PS5 Pro’s initial setup and follow the on-screen data-transfer instructions when prompted.
- If the Pro is already set up, go to Settings > System > System Software > Data Transfer > Continue on the PS5 Pro.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to identify the source PS5 and choose the data to transfer.
- Leave both consoles powered on. Do not change network settings or run internet connection tests during transfer; Sony warns these actions may damage or lose data.
The destination console restarts automatically. Some items, including game data, may continue transferring afterward. Games may become playable before all data has finished copying; check progress under Downloads/Uploads in Control Center. Sony does not give a fixed transfer-time estimate, so duration depends on the amount of data and connection.
How to access games if you do not transfer their installations
Game access and saved progress are different: you can install or redownload a game without moving its save by the same method. Digital purchases can be downloaded from the PS5 Pro’s game library, and disc games can be installed by inserting the disc.

- USB extended storage: If the old PS5 used a USB extended-storage drive, connect it to the Pro to access its game data. USB extended storage stores games and apps, not PS5 saved data. PS5 games on the drive must be copied to console storage or an M.2 SSD before they can be played; PS4 games can be played directly from the drive. Choose a separate method for saved data when needed

PlayStation Plus cloud storage
With an active PlayStation Plus membership, download saved data from cloud storage. For PS5 games, automatic synchronization can be configured; PS4 saves upload automatically, but must be downloaded manually to the PS5 console. On the PS5 Pro, open Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings, choose Saved Data (PS5) or Saved Data (PS4), then use the available sync or download controls. See Sony’s cloud-storage instructions.
USB transfer for PS4 saves
Copy PS4 saved data to a USB drive from the source console, then copy it to the PS5 Pro. If a save for the same title already exists on the destination, copying the USB save can replace it. This method does not transfer PS5 saves; Sony says PS5 saved data cannot be copied from the console to a USB drive.

Do not confuse Data Transfer with backup and restore
A full backup-and-restore operation is separate from direct Data Transfer. Restoring a backup erases data currently saved on the destination console, so do not use restore as a casual alternative if the PS5 Pro already contains data you need. Sony also says games and apps stored on USB extended storage or an M.2 SSD are excluded from the backup. Read Sony’s backup and restore guidance before choosing this route.
