Use Samsung Smart Switch on the Galaxy A57 to copy eligible data from an old Android phone or iPhone. Start from the A57’s setup flow, or open Smart Switch after setup; choose wireless, cable, or a supported backup route. Contacts, photos, messages and some apps may transfer, but app sign-ins and protected or app-specific data are not guaranteed to move.
Before you start
Prepare both phones so the transfer can run without interruptions:

- Connect the A57 to Wi-Fi during setup and keep both phones close together.
- Charge both phones. Samsung US says Smart Switch requires at least 20% battery; a wired transfer cannot charge the phones at the same time. Samsung’s Smart Switch guidance recommends a wired connection for large transfers because it is relatively faster.
- Have the old phone’s screen lock and account credentials ready. You may need to unlock it, approve permissions, or sign in during transfer.
- If you plan to connect by cable, check the phones’ ports and use a cable that supports data, not just charging. Samsung says the included USB-C connector can connect two phones, so check what came with your devices before buying another cable. Samsung UK’s Smart Switch guide explains the connector option.
Start Smart Switch on the Galaxy A57
During first-time setup
- Turn on the A57, select a language, and accept the terms.
- Choose Easy setup, then tap Galaxy or Android device or iPhone or iPad, depending on the old phone.
- Scan the QR code shown on the A57 with the old phone when prompted, then follow the instructions on both screens. Samsung’s Galaxy A57 setup guide notes that the steps can differ if you choose manual setup.
After setup is complete
On the A57, open Smart Switch from the Samsung folder, or go to Settings > Accounts and backup > Smart Switch. Tap Receive data, then choose the old phone’s type. Follow the prompts to connect, select the data categories, and begin. Samsung’s Smart Switch instructions cover this route.

Choose a transfer method

Android to Galaxy A57
Smart Switch supports wireless and wired transfers from Android. On the A57, select Receive data > Galaxy/Android, connect the phones using the chosen method, and select the categories to copy. If the old phone is a Galaxy, an adapter may be needed for a wired connection. Follow the permission requests on both devices. Samsung’s Android transfer guidance

iPhone to Galaxy A57
For a direct cable transfer, Samsung documents a Lightning-to-USB-C or USB-C-to-USB-C cable. Many USB-A cables require an OTG adapter to connect to the Galaxy. Alternatively, choose the iCloud route and follow the prompts on the A57. The exact choices depend on the connection and data available. Samsung’s iPhone transfer instructions
What transfers—and what may need attention
Smart Switch shows categories available for the connected device; review those choices before starting. Supported and selectable content can vary by phone pair. Some apps may appear dimmed while they finish installing, so wait for installation to complete before opening them. Samsung’s Smart Switch guidance

- App data and sign-ins: Many apps can transfer, but secure or encrypted data may not. Server-based apps may require their own backup and a fresh sign-in; banking apps and other services may not retain login details.
- Apps outside the Play Store: These may need to be installed manually.
- Protected content: DRM-protected content does not transfer through Smart Switch.
- iPhone apps: Apple and Google app stores have different selections. An Android equivalent may be offered only when one exists; an iOS app itself cannot simply be cloned onto Android.
- WhatsApp from iPhone: Use the latest iOS app and complete the chat transfer before signing into WhatsApp on the A57. Samsung says that signing in on the new phone before the migration finishes prevents this transfer route from moving the data. Samsung’s iPhone transfer instructions

If the transfer fails or stalls
- Confirm both devices are connected as instructed, nearby, and have enough battery. For wireless transfers, check Wi-Fi and retry.
- Make sure Smart Switch is installed on both phones if prompted, and approve its requested permissions.
- If the A57 setup uses a QR code, check that the old phone’s camera can scan it.
- For a cable connection, check that the cable and any adapter support the required connection. A Galaxy source phone may need an adapter.
- If using external storage, check available capacity; deselect items that do not fit and transfer the remaining categories later.
- Restart both phones and try again if the connection still fails. Samsung’s A57 setup troubleshooting guidance also advises checking account access and confirming SIM or eSIM activation with the carrier where relevant; eSIM support varies by carrier.
Verify the A57 before erasing the old phone
Once Smart Switch finishes, check your contacts, photos, messages and important documents. Open the apps you rely on, sign in again where needed, and use each app’s own backup or migration process for data that did not arrive. Keep the old phone unchanged until you have confirmed the information you need is available on the A57; Samsung does not promise a complete migration for every phone pair.
