How to Transfer Bitcoin From Robinhood to an External Wallet

Send BTC from Robinhood by entering a Bitcoin-compatible wallet address, checking the fee and withdrawal details, and submitting only after verifying everything.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To transfer Bitcoin from Robinhood, open Bitcoin in Robinhood Crypto, choose Send, enter the receiving wallet’s Bitcoin address and amount, then review the details and submit. The destination must accept BTC on the Bitcoin network. Transfers are final, so verify the address, network, amount, and fee before confirming.

Before you send Bitcoin

  • Choose a Bitcoin-compatible destination. The receiving wallet must support Bitcoin on the Bitcoin network. Robinhood lists Bitcoin addresses beginning with 1, 3, or bc1q as supported formats. Confirm the destination wallet’s instructions rather than relying on an address format alone. Robinhood’s crypto transfer guidance describes supported addresses.
  • Understand that the transfer cannot be undone. Robinhood says crypto transfers are final and cannot be canceled or reversed. A wrong address or incompatible network can mean lost funds. Robinhood’s transfer help page explains this limitation.
  • Have the receiving address ready. Copy the BTC receive address from the destination wallet. Do not use a Robinhood sender address as the destination; Robinhood says a sending address may be associated with operational accounts rather than your personal receiving address. See Robinhood’s transfer guidance.

How to send BTC from Robinhood

  1. Complete transfer verification if prompted. Robinhood requires identity verification to enable crypto transfers. The company says review is typically quick but may take up to five business days. Check Robinhood’s verification guidance.
  2. Open Bitcoin and choose Send. In Robinhood Crypto, open Bitcoin’s detail page and select Send.
  3. Enter the destination address. Paste the BTC receive address copied from the external wallet. Check it against the address shown in that wallet, and make sure the wallet is expecting Bitcoin on the Bitcoin network.
  4. Enter the amount. Type the amount of BTC to send. If you choose a send-all option, Robinhood says the estimated network fee is deducted from the total.
  5. Review every detail before submitting. On the review screen, check the destination address, amount, estimated network fee, and available withdrawal amount or limit. Robinhood says limits vary with account factors and can change, so rely on the limit displayed in your app rather than a general figure. Robinhood explains fees and limits here.
  6. Submit the transfer. Select Submit only after confirming those details. Keep the transaction status available in the app while it processes.

Fees, limits, and arrival time

Robinhood says it does not add a separate transfer fee, but Bitcoin transfers incur an on-chain network fee. The app displays an estimate before you confirm; the amount can depend in part on the asset and network activity. Review the estimate at the time of sending because it is not a fixed universal charge. Robinhood’s fee guidance describes how the estimate is applied.

There is no universal withdrawal limit to rely on: Robinhood says limits depend on account factors such as verification and transaction history, may change, and are shown in the app. Transfer availability is listed by Robinhood for all U.S. states, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the District of Columbia; account-specific restrictions may still apply. See Robinhood’s current transfer information.

Arrival is not guaranteed at a particular time. Robinhood lists three Bitcoin confirmations as approximately one hour, while its broader crypto-transfer guidance says ordinary processing can take up to a few hours; network conditions and security reviews may extend the wait. Treat those as Robinhood estimates, not a promise of when the receiving wallet will show the BTC. Robinhood’s Bitcoin confirmation information and general processing guidance provide those estimates.

What changes when you use an external wallet?

Moving Bitcoin to an external wallet does not by itself mean you have self-custody. In a custodial account, the provider manages the keys; with a non-custodial wallet, you control the keys and are responsible for protecting them and maintaining a backup. Robinhood warns that losing access to self-custody keys has no recovery option. Read Robinhood’s explanation of custody and key loss.

Before transferring, check that the destination can receive Bitcoin and that you understand how its backup and recovery work. Robinhood Wallet is one possible destination, and Robinhood says it can send and receive Bitcoin; the same basic checks apply to any other wallet. Robinhood Wallet’s support information covers its Bitcoin functionality.

If something goes wrong

  • You cannot select Send: Check whether crypto-transfer verification is complete and whether the app shows an account-specific restriction or limit.
  • The app rejects the address: Confirm you copied the destination wallet’s BTC receive address and that its format is supported. Do not try to work around a mismatch by sending over a different network.
  • The transfer is pending: Check the status in Robinhood and allow time for confirmations or a security review. The estimates above are not guaranteed completion times.
  • You submitted to the wrong address or network: Robinhood says transfers are final and cannot be reversed. Contact the destination wallet provider if appropriate, but do not assume the funds can be recovered.
