To move data from an iPad to an Android tablet, start the tablet’s setup and choose the option to copy from an iPhone or iPad. Follow its prompts to connect by cable or, when supported, wirelessly. What can move depends on the tablet and Android version: apps generally need to be installed again from Google Play, and photos stored only in iCloud need a separate transfer or backup. Here’s how to move what you can and check it before erasing the iPad.
Choose a transfer method
Most direct transfers are offered during Android tablet setup. Google documents cable and wireless options, but the exact screens and supported data vary by device. Follow the prompts on your tablet and check its manufacturer’s instructions if the iPad option or a data category does not appear.

| Method | What to know |
|---|---|
| USB cable | Connect the iPad using its charging cable. The cable route can support more data categories on some devices. Google’s Pixel Tablet guide, for example, lists WhatsApp history, free Play Store apps, audio files, notes, photo wallpapers, and home-screen layout for cable transfer only; those details are specific to Pixel Tablet. |
| Wireless | Use the tablet’s on-screen instructions, which may ask you to scan a QR code and continue in Android Switch. Google requires iOS 15 or later for wireless Android Switch transfers and says the devices should remain near each other. |
| Cloud or computer | Use this for files that the tablet’s setup flow does not offer, or for photos stored only in iCloud. Google points to Drive or Photos for internet transfers and computer-mediated transfer when offline. |
For the Pixel Tablet, Google lists contacts, calendars, and locally stored photos and videos as transferable by either cable or Wi-Fi; its cable-only categories are listed above. This is not a compatibility guarantee for other Android tablets. See Google’s Pixel Tablet transfer instructions and Google’s general Android transfer guidance.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesPrepare both devices
- Charge the iPad and tablet, unlock the iPad, and connect both to Wi-Fi.
- Check that the Android tablet has enough free storage. A copy can stop if the destination runs out of space.
- For wireless Android Switch, use an iPad running iOS 15 or later, keep the devices close, and be ready to allow camera access if prompted.
- If the iPad is managed by a school or employer, its administrator may restrict transfers.
- For a cable transfer, check both ports and use a compatible iPad charging cable. An adapter may be needed if the iPad cable does not fit the tablet; Google identifies USB-A-to-USB-C adapters as one possible case.
Transfer during Android setup
- Turn on the Android tablet and begin setup. At the prompt asking whether to copy data, choose the option for an iPhone or iPad.
- Follow the tablet’s instructions. If it shows a QR code, scan it with the iPad camera and continue in Android Switch. If it asks for a cable, connect the iPad’s charging cable. Approve the iPad’s Trust prompt if it appears.
- Choose the data categories offered on the tablet and let the copy finish. The options and screens differ by model.
- When setup is complete, check the transferred data before resetting or trading in the iPad.
If the tablet has already been set up and does not offer another transfer, check its manufacturer’s support instructions before resetting it. Some devices may require setup to be restarted to access the transfer flow.

What transfers—and what needs a separate step
Apps and app data
An iPad app is not copied over as an iPad installation. Google’s classic transfer path can install free apps that are available in Google Play, but an app may be unavailable in your region or missing from the Play Store. Find and install the Android version—or an alternative—from Google Play, then sign in. Purchases, subscriptions, saved content, and login state depend on the app and its developer; use the app’s own restore process where available. Do not assume a paid iPad app purchase transfers.
Photos and videos stored on the iPad
Select photos and videos in the setup transfer if the tablet offers them. Once the copy finishes, open a selection on the tablet to confirm the files arrived. If the tablet is short on space, transfer fewer large categories at a time or use a cloud route.
Photos stored only in iCloud
Cloud-only originals may not be included in a direct device-to-device copy. Google offers a separate process to transfer iCloud Photos to Google Photos. Alternatively, install Google Photos on the iPad, turn on backup, and allow the library to upload; Google says this can take several days. Confirm the photos and videos are visible in the intended Google account before deleting anything from the iPad. Start with Google’s iCloud Photos transfer instructions or its photo-transfer troubleshooting guidance.

Files and folders
File transfer support depends on the tablet, method, and Android version. If a file or folder is not offered during setup, move it through a cloud service such as Google Drive or use a computer. Google’s Android transfer guidance covers internet-based and computer-mediated options.
Messages
Turn off iMessage on the Apple devices associated with your number so messages can reach the Android device as standard texts. Some message features or attachments may not carry across identically. Google’s Android transfer troubleshooting guide includes steps for message delivery issues.
Can you transfer everything from an iPad to an Android tablet?
No single transfer should be assumed to include everything. The available categories vary by tablet and method; iPad apps must be replaced with Android versions, app data depends on each service, and iCloud-only photos need a separate route. Review what the setup screen actually offers, then check important files and app access individually.

- Open a selection of transferred photos, videos, and documents on the tablet.
- Check that important contacts and calendar entries are present.
- Install essential Android apps and confirm you can sign in or restore saved content.
- Verify that cloud-backed photos appear in the Google account you intend to use.
- Turn off iMessage and check that texts arrive on the Android device.
Keep the iPad intact until you have confirmed the data you need is available on the tablet or in the appropriate cloud account. Google also recommends verifying the copy before erasing an old device.

Troubleshoot common transfer problems
Wireless pairing does not work
Confirm both devices have internet access, keep them close, allow camera access to Android Switch, and follow the tablet’s Wi-Fi prompts. Google says iOS 14 or earlier cannot use wireless Android Switch; a cable route may still be available.
The cable will not connect
Check the connectors and ports on both devices. If the iPad’s charging cable does not fit the tablet, an adapter may be required. Do not assume one cable or adapter fits every combination.

Photos are missing
Some originals may be stored only in iCloud rather than on the iPad. Use Google’s iCloud Photos transfer process or back up with Google Photos from the iPad, then check the destination account. An interrupted copy or unsupported format can also leave files out.
The transfer stalls or storage runs out
Check free space on the Android tablet. Try deselecting large photo and video categories and transferring in smaller batches. If the tablet no longer offers the transfer after setup, consult its manufacturer before resetting it.
Texts do not arrive
Turn off iMessage on the Apple devices associated with your number and check that the SIM or eSIM is set up on the Android tablet. Use Google’s message troubleshooting instructions if delivery still fails.
