Transfer the playlist together with every video or segment it references, then verify the destination files and test the playlist there. A successful upload message—or an S3 ETag by itself—does not prove that every file is intact or that the playlist’s paths work.
Before uploading, identify what your playlist contains
“Playlist” can mean different things. It may be a simple index file, such as an M3U, that points to separate video files, or a streaming manifest such as an M3U8 that refers to many media segments. In either case, uploading only the index or manifest can leave you with a playlist that has nothing playable behind it.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Locate the playlist or manifest and identify every file and directory it references.
- Keep the referenced files in a stable folder tree. Relative paths in a playlist depend on that structure.
- Do not rename, move, or edit source files while a long transfer is running; the destination could otherwise contain a mixture of versions.
- Keep the original source collection until the destination audit and playback test both pass.
Google’s Storage Transfer Service data-integrity guidance recommends checking that the correct file versions and complete set were copied.
Transfer the complete collection with a tool that reports failures
Use the transfer method for your cloud provider that preserves the directory structure, reports failed objects, and supports retrying or resuming large transfers. For Google Cloud Storage, the documented recursive upload example is:
#1 Best Overall
- Easily store and access 2TB to content on the go with the Seagate Portable Drive, a USB external hard drive
- Designed to work with Windows or Mac computers, this external hard drive makes backup a snap just drag and drop
- To get set up, connect the portable hard drive to a computer for automatic recognition no software required
- This USB drive provides plug and play simplicity with the included 18 inch USB 3.0 cable
- The available storage capacity may vary.
gcloud storage rsync --recursive LOCAL_DIRECTORY gs://DESTINATION_BUCKET/FOLDER_NAME
Replace the local directory, bucket, and destination folder with your own values. This command is specific to Google Cloud CLI, not a universal cloud command. Google also documents recursive copy as an alternative in its file-system upload instructions.
For large objects, a provider’s resumable or multipart upload option can reduce the cost of recovering from a failed transfer. With S3 multipart upload, parts are uploaded independently and a failed part can be sent again instead of retransmitting the entire object. AWS says to consider multipart upload when an object reaches 100 MB; that is S3-specific guidance, not a general threshold for every provider. See the AWS multipart upload and integrity tutorial.

Verify the bytes with checksums where possible
A checksum is a value calculated from file contents. Comparing compatible checksums for the source and destination can show whether the bytes match. Use a whole-object checksum supported by the provider and the upload mode, and check what your chosen transfer tool actually compares.
Google Cloud Storage supports CRC32C and MD5 for integrity validation and recommends CRC32C. Its documentation notes that MD5 is unavailable for some chunked or composite upload cases. It also explains that gcloud storage rsync may compare size and modification time rather than checksums in some local-filesystem comparisons. So the word “rsync” alone does not establish that your transfer received an end-to-end checksum comparison. Check the relevant Cloud Storage checksum documentation.

- High capacity in a small enclosure – The small, lightweight design offers up to 6TB* capacity, making WD Elements portable hard drives the ideal companion for consumers on the go.
- Plug-and-play expandability
- Vast capacities up to 6TB[1] to store your photos, videos, music, important documents and more
- SuperSpeed USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5Gbps)
For S3 multipart uploads, do not treat the ETag as a full-object MD5 checksum. AWS explains that a multipart ETag can be a composite of checksums for individual parts rather than a checksum of the entire object. Use the documented checksum facility for the algorithm and upload mode you selected.
Audit the destination file set
After the transfer finishes, compare the destination against the source rather than relying only on the transfer-complete message. Google’s Storage Transfer Service guidance calls out checking the correct version, expected file set and count, and metadata such as size and checksums.
Rank #4
- Plug-and-play expandability
- SuperSpeed USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5Gbps)
- Compare the number of files and their relative paths, including the playlist or manifest and all referenced media.
- Compare byte sizes for each corresponding file. A size mismatch is a clear reason to investigate, though matching sizes alone do not prove matching contents.
- Compare compatible source and destination checksums for complete files where available. Confirm whether the transfer tool computed or checked them, rather than assuming it did.
- Review the transfer log or provider report for failed, skipped, or overwritten objects and resolve any unexpected entries.
Provider behavior can differ when source checksum metadata is unavailable. Google documents that Storage Transfer Service uses source checksums when available; when they are absent, agents near the source may read and calculate one. If agents cannot run near the source and no source checksum is available, the service may fall back to metadata such as file size while calculating and comparing a checksum for the data it transfers against the final Cloud Storage checksum.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Test the playlist from its destination
Checksums validate file contents, not playlist meaning. Open the playlist or manifest using the destination’s paths or URLs, then check that its references resolve to the uploaded files. Play representative items, including one near the end of a long playlist. This catches broken paths, access-permission problems, and playback incompatibilities that a byte comparison cannot detect.

Do not remove or overwrite the source copy until the destination audit and playback check succeed. If the playlist fails, compare its references with the destination layout first; if a referenced file is missing or differs in size or checksum, repair or retransfer that object and test again.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is not general-purpose cloud storage but keeping a YouTube channel live with uploaded videos, StreamNeo is a separate option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos to YouTube; it is not a general cloud server for transferring or storing a playlist collection.
Quick Recap
- Nothing has to stay on at home: StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so your computer and home connection can be off.
- Videos stream as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot regardless of quality; there are no quality tiers or re-encoding.
- It automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. The monthly option is $9.99 per month.
