Samsung’s global and U.S. announcements do not explicitly confirm the same non-Galaxy Android support. Check compatibility for your phone and market before buying; Samsung has not published a universal list of supported Android models or a verified setup guide for non-Galaxy phones.
Can you use SmartTag3 with a non-Samsung Android phone?
Samsung’s September 30, 2026 Japanese announcement says Galaxy SmartTag3 supports Android devices beyond Galaxy phones, as well as iOS. Its global and U.S. announcements describe support for Galaxy and iOS without explicitly naming other Android devices. The Japanese statement is direct evidence that some non-Galaxy Android support is intended, but it does not establish compatibility with every Android phone or in every market. Samsung’s Japanese launch announcement says feature availability depends on the region, OS version and device model.

Before purchase, check current local Samsung information for your exact phone and country rather than assuming that an Android version alone guarantees support.
How to locate a SmartTag3 if your phone is supported
Samsung identifies SmartThings Find as the service for checking and sharing a tag’s location, and Search Nearby as the feature for finding it at close range on supported devices. Samsung’s general SmartThings Find support page describes Search Nearby, shared location, location history and left-behind notifications. The precise features available can depend on the phone and region.
#1 Best Overall
- Find your things with ease: The SmartThings Find app uses Bluetooth and ultra-wideband (UWB) technology to locate and keep track of your stuff
- Water and Dust Resistant: IP67 rating offers protection against dust and water immersion between 15 cm and 1 meter for up to 30 minutes
- Compatible with Galaxy Devices Only
- Confirm support first. Verify that SmartTag3 and the relevant SmartThings Find features are supported with your phone in your market.
- Use SmartThings Find to check the tag’s location. Samsung names it as the service for checking and sharing location. The available official information does not provide a confirmed non-Galaxy SmartTag3 enrollment path, so do not rely on setup instructions written for a different tag generation.
- Use Search Nearby when you are close. On a supported device, Samsung says this feature helps locate the tag at close range. With UWB support, Samsung says finding becomes more precise as you get closer.
Samsung’s older SmartTag connection guide describes pressing the tag button, selecting “Add Now” and following the in-app steps, but it is explicitly for older SmartTags and says those tags connect only to Samsung devices. It is not verified SmartTag3 setup guidance for non-Galaxy Android phones. Samsung’s legacy SmartTag guide predates SmartTag3, so its device restriction should not be used to contradict the newer model’s stated cross-OS support.
What happens when the tag is out of your phone’s range?
For remote location updates, Samsung describes the Galaxy Find Network: participating Galaxy devices can detect a SmartTag3 beyond the direct range of its owner’s phone. That is different from your non-Galaxy Android phone finding the tag through a network of Android devices; Samsung does not say a non-Galaxy handset acts as a finding node. Samsung says more than 900 million participating Galaxy devices worldwide can serve as nodes, a manufacturer-reported figure rather than an independently verified count. See Samsung’s SmartTag3 feature announcement.
