Confirm the security is on the relevant watchlist, check the trigger and threshold, enable the intended push, email, or text option, and allow notifications on the receiving device or browser. A saved setting does not guarantee instant delivery, and a price alert is not an order.
What to check before testing a watchlist alert
Alert setup has several independent parts. A rule can be active while its notification channel is off, or the broker can have push alerts enabled while the phone blocks them. Check each layer rather than treating a missing notification as proof that the alert itself failed.

- Watchlist: Confirm the security is on the watchlist associated with the alert. Coinbase says only assets added to a watchlist send its price alerts; Robinhood describes alerts for assets watched or held. These are provider-specific rules, not a universal brokerage standard.
- Alert rule: Verify the security, trigger direction, threshold, alert type, and any frequency setting. Make sure the rule is enabled.
- Delivery channel: Check the broker’s preference for the specific alert category. Push, email, and text availability varies by provider and alert type.
- Receiving device: Confirm that the phone, computer, browser, or operating system permits the chosen notification method.
For example, Coinbase describes custom alerts above or below a target and frequency controls for predetermined alerts. Robinhood documents price-movement and custom alerts, with separate push preferences that include categories such as stock price movements and order status.
A practical way to validate the configuration
Use one security and one clear threshold first. This checklist helps isolate settings; it is not a guarantee of delivery or a controlled comparison of brokers.

- Choose a listed security. Open the relevant watchlist and confirm the security appears there. Note which broker account and watchlist you are using.
- Inspect or create one threshold alert. Record the alert type, trigger direction, threshold, and frequency if available. Confirm it is enabled. Select a threshold that can be checked without confusing it with another rule.
- Set the desired channel. In the broker’s notification preferences, enable the intended route—such as push or email—for that alert category. Note the broker, app or web platform, and channel so you can interpret the result.
- Allow notifications on the receiving device. Check the app’s operating-system notification permission. For browser notifications, check both browser and operating-system permissions. Also review relevant display, sound, focus, or quiet-mode settings. Exact menu paths depend on the device and operating-system version.
- Observe the threshold event. When the configured condition is reached, record when and where the notification appears, and compare it with the alert state and current quote shown in the brokerage app.
- If nothing appears, re-check each layer. Review watchlist membership, the rule and threshold, the channel toggle, device or browser permissions, and whether the broker service is available. Confirm the current quote or alert state inside the app.
If you compare channels, compare them against the same triggering event and configuration. A delayed or missing alert alone does not identify the cause: the rule, channel, device permissions, or service availability may each be involved.
How platform documentation differs
The examples below describe features in each provider’s own materials. They are useful for knowing what settings to look for, not for ranking notification speed or reliability.

- BUILT FOR YOUR MARKET, FUTURES, STOCKS, FOREX, OPTIONS & CRYPTO: 4X is a mindset and process journal, not a strategy tool tied to one instrument. The plan, the trade log, the deep dive and the weekly review work the same whether you trade ES, EURUSD, SPY or BTC. Traders use it across all five markets every day.
- THE 2026 EDITION, REBUILT FROM TRADER FEEDBACK: Same trusted system, better in every way. An extra daily page for more room to log the session. Weekly reviews now grouped with each week's trades, so no more flipping back and forth. Crisp, darker print that's easy on the eyes after hours on a screen. A Quick-Start QR that scans straight to step-by-step instructions.
- NOT A NOTEBOOK, A COMPLETE 12-WEEK SYSTEM: Start with a one-time 9-part Trading Plan (your market, setups, risk rules and discipline checklist). Then twelve identical weeks: five Daily Logs, five Deep Dive trade pages, and a two-page Weekly Review. 189 guided pages, roughly 80 trades. Guided prompts walk you through every step. You never stare at a blank page.
- RATE YOUR EXECUTION, NOT YOUR RESULT: Your platform tracks the P&L. Nothing tracks the why. Log energy, sleep and mindset before the open; grade every trade A to F on whether you followed your plan, not on whether it won; then face the pattern every weekend with START / STOP / IMPROVE / CONTINUE. That review habit is the edge. You're 42% more likely to hit a goal you've written down.
- BUILT TO LAST, ARRIVES GIFT-READY: Vegan-leather hardcover, 100gsm bleed-resistant paper, two ribbon markers and an elastic closure band. Bound to lay flat so you're not fighting the spine while you write. 189 pages, 5.75" x 8.5", carries in a bag. Ships in a premium gift box: the gift every trader in your life actually wants.
| Provider | Documented alert or control | Delivery or limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Coinbase | Watchlist assets; custom alerts above or below a target; frequency choices for predetermined alerts. | Push, in-app, and/or email settings are described. Alerts notify that a price was reached; they do not place orders and are not investment advice. |
| Robinhood | Price-movement settings for watched or held assets and custom price alerts. | Push preferences include categories such as stock price movements and order status. Robinhood says it cannot always guarantee push delivery; availability and app and phone settings affect notifications. |
| Fidelity | Price triggers for watchlist securities and delivery-device settings are described. | The help material lists legacy devices and channels, so check current Fidelity settings rather than assuming every listed option remains available. |
| TD Direct Investing | Support material describes real-time price and volume alerts for stocks and ETFs. | Phone push or email preferences are described; check the current TD app for availability and exact steps. |
| Kraken | Watchlist alerts can depend on notification permissions. | Web notifications require operating-system and browser permission; the app may require operating-system push permission. |
| Charles Schwab | Alerts can be created from security quote details, watchlists, or other app areas and edited by changing trigger parameters. | The guide describes alert setup and editing; it does not establish a comparative delivery performance figure. |
What “real-time” can and cannot tell you
“Real-time push notifications” is wording used in support materials for alert features, not a measured delivery-time promise. The official pages cited here do not provide comparable latency measurements or success rates for stock-watchlist alerts. Robinhood explicitly cautions that push delivery is not always guaranteed.

Do not use a watchlist price alert as a dependable order mechanism. Coinbase says price alerts only notify that a price has been reached and do not place orders; Robinhood describes alerts as informational and likewise warns about delivery limits. Confirm prices and order status in the brokerage service itself when making a trading decision.
