Set the browser viewport to 375 CSS pixels wide, record its height and device pixel ratio (DPR), and inspect the app at that width plus the app’s actual breakpoint boundaries. A 375px viewport is a useful Chrome DevTools preset—not a standard or a claim about the most common Indian phone. Use screenshots with a clearly stated scope, and validate important device-specific behavior on a real phone.
What “375 pixels wide” means
In responsive testing, 375px normally means 375 CSS pixels, the logical width used by the page layout. It does not necessarily mean the resulting screenshot file will be 375 physical pixels wide: device pixel ratio affects how CSS pixels map to raster pixels. Record DPR when comparing screenshot files or investigating visual regressions. Chrome DevTools includes 375px among its responsive width presets and also allows direct dimension entry. The available official documentation establishes 375px as a convenient preset, not as a required width, a standard, or a measured representative width for Indian web users. Treat it as one test case in a responsive matrix.
Test manually in Chrome DevTools
- Open the web app in Chrome, then open DevTools and turn on Device Mode.
- Choose Responsive and enter a width of 375 CSS pixels. Set the height too; a fixed height makes the visible viewport and screenshot easier to reproduce.
- Inspect the initial layout: navigation, text wrapping, images, forms, buttons, and any horizontal overflow. Interact with elements that matter to the review, rather than relying only on a static glance.
- Use DevTools’ media-query display to identify the app’s CSS breakpoint ranges. Inspect widths on either side of any breakpoint that changes the layout, as well as 375px. A single width cannot reveal whether a transition fails just above or below it.
- Record the viewport dimensions and DPR. If a raster comparison must match, keep the same browser conditions and capture method as well.
- Choose the screenshot scope deliberately. A viewport screenshot documents only the currently visible area; a full-size screenshot includes content below the fold. Label the capture accordingly.
Chrome describes Device Mode as a first-order approximation of mobile appearance and performance; it does not run the page on an actual mobile device. Chrome DevTools Device Mode documentation

Choose widths around the app’s real breakpoints
Do not assume that 375px alone is enough. Read the app’s media queries and test widths immediately below and above each relevant transition. For example, if a layout changes at a breakpoint, use one width on each side of that boundary to check both states. The correct values come from the app’s CSS, not from a universal Indian-device matrix.
For an Indian audience, make regional behavior part of the test only when the product actually depends on it: for example, a language selector, a location-specific experience, or timezone-sensitive content. Document the locale, timezone, geolocation, and permission state used for that scenario. There is no single locale or location that should be assumed for every Indian web app.

Automate repeatable captures with Playwright
For regression work, Playwright can pin viewport and device settings, emulate browser locale, timezone, and geolocation where relevant, and capture or assert screenshots. The example below uses a fixed 375px viewport and height, saves a full-page image, and shows how to configure Indian test conditions. Pick the locale and location that match the behavior under test; these sample values are configuration choices, not a universal India setting.

import { test, expect } from '@playwright/test';
test('mobile layout at 375 CSS pixels', async ({ browser }) => {
const context = await browser.newContext({
viewport: { width: 375, height: 812 },
locale: 'en-IN',
timezoneId: 'Asia/Kolkata',
// Add geolocation only for a location-dependent test, and grant permission:
// geolocation: { latitude: 19.0760, longitude: 72.8777 },
// permissions: ['geolocation'],
});
const page = await context.newPage();
await page.goto('https://example.com', { waitUntil: 'networkidle' });
await page.screenshot({ path: 'mobile-375-full.png', fullPage: true });
await expect(page).toHaveScreenshot('mobile-375-full.png');
await context.close();
});
Replace the example URL with the app under test. For a visible-viewport capture, omit fullPage: true. If the app has dynamic content, wait for the relevant state or stabilize it before asserting a screenshot; otherwise, time-varying content can create noisy comparisons. Playwright’s documentation covers emulation and visual comparisons.

Validate on a real phone when fidelity matters
Desktop emulation is a fast way to inspect responsive layout, but it is not a substitute for running the app on a phone when device-specific rendering, performance, or interactions are important. Use an actual handset for high-impact checks such as touch behavior or device-dependent issues, and treat emulation as the repeatable first pass rather than proof of identical real-device behavior.
