Percy’s guidance recommends running all locale variants in one build on one branch; a clear locale–page–state naming scheme helps prevent one language from being compared with another.
Plan locale coverage from your website
Start with the languages and regional variants your site actually supports. For each one, note how the application selects it—such as a locale-specific route or a language switch—and choose pages and states where text or script rendering could affect usability.

- Include high-impact areas such as navigation, landing pages, forms, validation messages, registration or checkout, and important content-heavy pages.
- Choose viewports that represent the layouts your users encounter, including narrow and wide screens where text wrapping may differ.
- Prioritize transaction-critical and frequently used states before lower-impact content.
This is a project-specific coverage plan, not a universal list prescribed by Percy. The right set depends on your site’s supported variants and user journeys.

Percy’s Playwright SDK documents installing the CLI and SDK, calling percySnapshot(page, name), and running the test command through percy exec with a Percy project token. See the Percy Playwright SDK documentation for the current setup details.

- Install the packages: add
@percy/cliand@percy/playwrightto your project using the package manager and versions appropriate to your repository. - Set the project token: provide the Percy project token to the test process using Percy’s documented token configuration. Keep secrets out of source control.
- Add snapshots to your existing Playwright test: navigate to each locale and relevant page state, wait until the intended content is ready, then take a uniquely named snapshot.
- Run the test under Percy: invoke the existing test command with
percy execand your project token configured.
Illustrative adaptation—the route structure and locale selection below must be changed to match your application:
import { percySnapshot } from '@percy/playwright';
for (const locale of supportedLocales) {
await page.goto(`${baseUrl}/${locale}/checkout`);
// Add application-specific waits or state setup before capturing.
await percySnapshot(page, `${locale} – checkout – initial`);
}
The SDK documents the named snapshot call; the loop, route pattern, and naming format are examples to adapt, not tested code for a particular site.
Rank #2
Keep each locale tied to its own baseline
Run locale variants together in one build on one branch where practical, and give each snapshot a distinct name that identifies its locale. BrowserStack’s Percy guide recommends running all locales in a single build on a single branch and using separate snapshot names because Percy tracks baselines by snapshot name. See Visual testing across multiple locales.
A useful naming pattern is locale – page – state, for example hi-IN – checkout – validation-error. Keep the names stable across runs so the same locale, page, and state can be compared with its history.
If a diff appears to compare different languages, or many snapshots show unexpectedly large changes, check whether the locale names changed, a baseline is missing, or variants were split across builds or branches. Percy identifies cross-locale comparisons, missing baselines, and unusually large diffs as symptoms of baseline-structure problems; resolve the baseline mapping before treating the diff as a product regression.
Review Indian-script rendering and layout
For every supported script and relevant viewport, inspect the actual rendered page rather than assuming that a successful page load means the text is correct. Look for:
Rank #4
- Missing or substituted glyphs.
- Conjuncts, vowel marks, and other combining marks that appear misplaced or separated.
- Unexpected line breaks, overlap, or clipped text in headings, controls, and messages.
- Buttons or form controls made difficult to use by translated text length or altered wrapping.
- Responsive layouts where text pushes important content off-screen or changes the page’s visual hierarchy.
These are useful test-plan checks, not claims that a particular Indian language fails in a particular browser. A 2020 multilingual-internet report discussed browser support and possible mobile font or script rendering problems, but it is historical context and does not establish a present-day compatibility matrix. See the 2020 multilingual-internet report.

Include right-to-left states only when your product uses them
Do not treat every Indian-language variant as right-to-left. If your application supports RTL layouts, test those states explicitly. Percy’s Storybook SDK documents an additional-snapshot pattern using a direction=rtl query parameter and a rule for including matching stories. Consult the Percy Storybook SDK documentation and verify its current configuration before copying an example into your project.
Make captures stable and useful to review
Capture after the page has reached the user-visible state you intend to test. If content loads asynchronously, add application-specific waits or state setup before taking the snapshot. Percy’s Playwright SDK supports named snapshots and options including full-page capture; choose full-page or scoped capture based on the page and the review question. A stable capture helps distinguish genuine layout changes from incomplete loading or inconsistent test state.
Or skip the browser setup
If you need a clean screenshot without wiring up a browser test, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. Its one-request API can return a screenshot or PDF:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot"
-d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY
--data-urlencode url=https://example.com/hi-IN/checkout
-o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for request options. Cookie banners are accepted and removed before capture, along with supported newsletter popups and chat widgets; those cleanup steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides screenshot tools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. The free plan includes 1,000 shots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.

Quick Recap
Troubleshoot common Percy test problems
- Snapshots from different locales appear to share a comparison: ensure locale is part of every snapshot name and that names remain stable between builds.
- Many snapshots have large diffs or no expected baseline: check whether variants were run in a consistent build and branch, whether names changed, and whether Percy has the intended baseline for each name.
- Text or controls appear clipped inconsistently: verify the locale route, viewport, and page state are the intended ones; wait for the content your users see before capturing.
- A layout is unexpectedly mirrored: check whether the application’s directionality is actually RTL for that state rather than inferring direction from the language alone.
- The test command does not produce Percy snapshots: confirm the test is invoked through
percy exec, that the Playwright SDK snapshot call runs, and that the project token is available to the process. Follow current installation and token instructions in Percy’s SDK documentation.

| Priority axis | Questions to ask |
|---|---|
| Script and direction | Which scripts are supported, and does any page state use a different text direction? |
| Text length and wrapping | Which translated labels, headings, buttons, and error messages can change layout? |
| Viewport | Where are narrow and wide layouts likely to expose different wrapping or spacing? |
| Page and state importance | Which user journeys are high-traffic or transaction-critical? |
| Baseline identity | Does every locale have a stable, uniquely named snapshot that compares with its own history? |
