Choose the change that matches what you want customers to experience: hide the whole site or just store pages with WooCommerce’s native Coming soon setting; pause purchases while keeping the site online with the Store Vacation extension; or keep selling while displaying a fulfillment-delay notice. These options affect public access and checkout differently, so they are not interchangeable maintenance switches.

How do I hide my WooCommerce store from visitors?
Use the native Site visibility setting when the goal is to restrict public access, rather than merely stop checkout. WooCommerce says stores already set to Live remain Live by default; an administrator must change the setting to Coming soon.

- In WordPress admin, go to WooCommerce > Settings > Site visibility.
- Select Coming soon to restrict public access behind a Coming soon landing page.
- If the rest of your website should stay public, enable the option to apply Coming soon to store pages only.
- Enable the private-link option if authorized people need access while the store is restricted.
- When you are ready to reopen publicly, return to Site visibility and select Live.

How do I stop WooCommerce orders temporarily but leave the website online?
The Store Vacation extension is intended for temporary store changes without taking the entire website offline. Its Force Close control is useful for an unplanned interruption; scheduled closures and opening-hour rules are available for planned time away.

Close immediately with Force Close
- Go to WooCommerce > Settings > Store Vacation > Dashboard.
- Find Emergency Close and enable Force Close Store.
- Choose the notice customers should see and save the changes.
The store closes immediately, but Force Close has no automatic reopening time. To resume accepting orders, disable Force Close and save. Then check the Dashboard: an active schedule, weekday closure, opening-hours rule, or Checkout Protection incident may still restrict purchases. See the Store Vacation documentation.
Use a schedule for planned time away
Store Vacation documents one-time schedules, weekday closures, and opening hours. The customer-facing result depends on the extension’s Behavior and Conditions settings. Shop and product pages may remain visible while purchasing is restricted; documented choices also include custom content, password access, private-link access, cart-building, and product exceptions. Set the behavior deliberately so the notice and access rules match your plan.

Can I keep taking orders while warning customers about a delay?
Yes. In Store Vacation, Bypass Restrictions with the default shop-page behavior can leave browsing, adding to cart, and checkout available while the vacation notice remains visible. Use the notice to state when orders are expected to ship; this setting informs customers rather than pausing sales. Checkout Protection takes precedence if it closes the store in response to a configured security incident. WooCommerce documents Bypass Restrictions and this exception here.
Can I show products but disable checkout?
Use Catalog Visibility Options if you want a catalog that customers can browse without placing orders. WooCommerce documents controls to disable purchases for all users, replace Add to Cart text, and disable normal cart and checkout processes while retaining product images and descriptions. This preserves catalog presentation; it does not hide the store pages from public visitors. See Catalog Visibility Options documentation.
