Check the AI Gateway’s own deployment and version, then compare that version against the affected and fixed releases in each relevant GitLab security advisory. GitLab says it has deployed fixes to its hosted AI Gateways for the two vulnerabilities covered here. If you operate an affected self-hosted Gateway, upgrade to the fixed release for its branch. A GitLab Self-Managed instance may still use GitLab’s hosted Gateway, so the GitLab edition alone does not establish where the Gateway runs.
First identify which AI Gateway you use
GitLab documents GitLab-hosted, fully self-hosted, and hybrid AI Gateway configurations. In a fully self-hosted setup, your organization hosts and maintains the Gateway infrastructure. With a GitLab-hosted Gateway, GitLab manages setup and maintenance. A hybrid setup can use a self-hosted Gateway for some features while features that use GitLab-managed models connect through GitLab’s hosted Gateway. Record the deployment type and the AI Gateway release from the deployment or release records for your setup. Do not substitute the GitLab application version: the advisories below specify AI Gateway versions. The release records to check depend on how the Gateway was deployed; there is no single universal version-discovery procedure established for every deployment method.
Compare the Gateway version with each advisory
The two vulnerabilities have different affected ranges and fixes. Check both advisories if you are assessing exposure to both CVEs, and compare versions within the applicable release stream rather than treating numbers from different branches as interchangeable.

For CVE-2026-90970, GitLab describes a custom flow prompt-template sandbox escape. Under certain conditions, an authenticated user with Duo Agent Platform access could use a specially crafted flow configuration to potentially execute arbitrary commands on the AI Gateway. GitLab rates it Critical, with a CVSS score of 9.9.
For CVE-2026-1868, the February 6, 2026 advisory describes insecure expansion of user-supplied data through crafted Duo Agent Platform Flow definitions in the Duo Workflow Service. An authenticated GitLab user could trigger denial of service or code execution on the Gateway. GitLab also gives this issue a CVSS score of 9.9.

What to do based on your deployment
- GitLab-hosted Gateway: GitLab says it had already deployed the fixes for both cited issues, and customers using the hosted Gateway do not need to take action for these vulnerabilities.
- Customer-operated Gateway: Compare the Gateway’s recorded version with both applicable advisory ranges. If it falls in an affected range, upgrade to the fixed release listed for that branch, using the installation guidance for your deployment.
- Hybrid configuration: Determine which features use the self-hosted Gateway and which use GitLab’s hosted Gateway. Apply the self-hosted version check to the customer-operated Gateway; GitLab’s hosted-fix statement applies to the hosted Gateway.
These advisories do not establish that the two issues are the only vulnerabilities that may affect an AI Gateway. Check GitLab’s current security advisories before operational sign-off because newer advisories, releases, or backports can change patch guidance.
