How to Tell Whether a Sci-Fi Stealth Game Will Run on Your PC

Find out whether your PC meets a sci-fi stealth game’s requirements by checking each listed component against your computer’s specifications.

To find out whether a sci-fi stealth game will run on your PC, compare your computer’s specifications with the official requirements for that exact game. Check the operating system, CPU, graphics card and VRAM, RAM, DirectX, and free storage one by one. Meeting minimum requirements means your PC reaches the publisher’s baseline; it does not guarantee a particular frame rate or graphics setting.

Why the exact game matters

There is no single hardware threshold for sci-fi stealth games. A stealth strategy game from an earlier era may ask for far less than a newer release, and even games in the same series can have different requirements. Use the current official store or publisher listing for the specific game and PC version you plan to play.

For example, Steam’s Alien: Isolation requirements list Windows 7 64-bit, 4 GB RAM, a 2 GB graphics card such as an AMD Radeon R9 200 Series or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660, DirectX 11, and 35 GB of storage at minimum. The listing says every element must match or be better.

By contrast, the Aliens: Dark Descent listing sets minimum requirements of Windows 10 or 11, an AMD FX-6300 or Intel Core i3-6100, 8 GB RAM, a 3 GB graphics card such as a Radeon R9 380 or GeForce GTX 960, DirectX 12, and 60 GB storage. Its recommended tier calls for 16 GB RAM and a 6 GB GPU. The publisher’s notes associate minimum with 30 FPS at 1920×1080 on low and recommended with 60 FPS at 1920×1080 on epic; these are the listing’s stated targets, not independent test results.

Satellite Reign lists a Windows minimum of 3 GB RAM and a DirectX 9 graphics card with 1 GB memory. These differences are why a genre-wide rule cannot tell you whether your PC is suitable. Requirements are product specifications and can be revised; check the current listing rather than relying on an old summary.

Minimum and recommended requirements are different targets

Minimum requirements are the publisher’s baseline, while recommended requirements describe a higher target. Compare your PC against both tiers when the listing provides them. If every minimum item is met but one or more recommended items are not, describe the result as “meets minimum only”—not as a promise of smooth play, a specific quality preset, or a particular frame rate.

Listings may state what a tier is intended to achieve, but treat any such resolution, settings, or FPS figures as the publisher’s claim for that game. For instance, the EVERSPACE requirements separate minimum and recommended CPU, memory, graphics, and DirectX targets. A requirements comparison is an estimate, not a hands-on compatibility test.

Check the requirements against your PC

  1. Record the game’s requirements. Open the exact official store or publisher page and note the operating system and architecture, CPU, GPU and VRAM, system RAM, DirectX version, storage, and any extra notes such as resolution, settings, SSD, or laptop limitations. Confirm the requirements apply to the PC version you intend to install.
  2. Find your Windows and processor details. In Windows 10 or 11, open Settings > System > About. Microsoft says this page shows the Windows edition and version, processor, installed RAM, and whether the system is 32-bit or 64-bit. Compare the OS and CPU with the game listing.
  3. Check free storage on the install drive. Open Settings > System > Storage and check the drive where the game will be installed. Compare its available space with the listing’s storage requirement; a PC can have enough total storage but not enough free space on the chosen drive. See Microsoft’s guide to finding information about your Windows device.
  4. Read the DirectX version. Search the Start menu for dxdiag, open the tool, and check the System tab. Microsoft Support says, “The DxDiag tool reports detailed information about the DirectX components and drivers installed on your system and can be used.” Compare the reported DirectX version with the requirement. This check alone does not establish that your GPU, graphics driver, or other hardware is compatible. Microsoft’s DirectX guidance explains how to inspect it.
  5. Identify the graphics adapter and VRAM. The About page does not provide the complete graphics comparison. Identify the installed adapter using your PC or GPU maker’s information, an appropriate system diagnostic, or Device Manager. Then compare the exact GPU model and its VRAM with the listing. Do not treat total system RAM as graphics memory.
  6. Compare every listed item separately. If any requirement is below the published minimum, your PC does not meet the stated minimum. A stronger CPU does not make up for a graphics card below minimum, and extra RAM does not make up for insufficient storage. If all minimum items match but some recommended items do not, your PC meets minimum only.
  7. Check which GPU a laptop will use. If your laptop has both integrated and dedicated graphics, verify which adapter the game is set to use and compare that adapter’s model and VRAM. Comparing the dedicated GPU is not useful if the game is instead running on integrated graphics.

Windows’ own system requirements are not the same as a particular game’s requirements. Microsoft’s Windows 11 system requirements describe what the operating system needs; the game’s official listing is the relevant source for the app’s hardware requirements.

How to state your result

  • Does not meet minimum: At least one listed minimum item is below the requirement.
  • Meets minimum only: Every minimum item matches or exceeds the listing, but at least one recommended item does not.
  • Meets recommended: Every listed recommended item matches or exceeds the requirement. This still is not a guaranteed FPS or compatibility result unless the publisher explicitly makes that promise.

These labels summarize a specification comparison, not a guarantee that the game will work flawlessly. Actual results may depend on factors the listing does not cover, including drivers and the specific hardware configuration.
