To send a tap at a specific point in a Puppeteer page, call await page.touchscreen.tap(x, y). Use a locator click instead when you simply need to activate a known element; use an element tap when the action specifically needs touch input on that element.
Tap at screen coordinates
page.touchscreen.tap(x, y) dispatches touchstart and touchend at the supplied horizontal and vertical coordinates:

await page.touchscreen.tap(120, 240);The coordinates are page viewport positions, so make sure the intended target is at that position when the tap runs. This API is useful when the location itself matters or when you do not have a DOM element to select. Puppeteer documents the events it sends, but the page’s hit testing and resulting application behavior depend on the site.

await page.locator('button').click();When a genuine touch event is required for a DOM target, an element tap is more suitable than guessing coordinates. Puppeteer’s documented ElementHandle.tap() behavior is to scroll the target into view and tap its center.
Set up mobile emulation before navigating
To test a page as a known mobile device, emulate that device before loading the site. Puppeteer’s device emulation applies device metrics and a user agent; the documentation advises setting it before navigation because changing page size can affect the site.

Troubleshoot taps that miss or fail
- The wrong area receives the tap: verify the target’s current position in the viewport and that the page has finished the layout changes relevant to your test. Coordinate taps do not select an element for you.
- The page does not respond to a coordinate tap: confirm that the application responds to touch events at that location. Puppeteer documents
touchstartandtouchend; it does not guarantee the site’s event handlers or hit testing will produce a particular result. - An element tap throws: the element may have been removed from the DOM between selection and interaction. Re-select the current element before attempting the action again.
- The mobile layout or behavior is unexpected: apply device emulation or viewport settings before
page.goto(). A later viewport change can affect the page and may reload it. - A selector-based action is flaky: prefer Puppeteer locators for ordinary element interaction so their documented visibility, enabled, viewport, and stability preconditions can be applied.
