Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallSet the viewport before you visit, test, or capture the page, then call cy.screenshot() with { capture: 'viewport' }. Cypress otherwise captures the full page by default, which is different from saving the single visible responsive screen.
Capture a responsive layout at a chosen viewport
This Cypress test loops through three explicitly chosen widths and heights, waits for the navigation to appear, and saves one viewport screenshot for each size:

describe('responsive navigation', () => {
const sizes = [
{ name: 'phone', width: 375, height: 667 },
{ name: 'tablet', width: 768, height: 1024 },
{ name: 'desktop', width: 1280, height: 800 },
]
for (const size of sizes) {
it(`captures the ${size.name} layout`, () => {
cy.viewport(size.width, size.height)
cy.visit('/')
cy.get('nav').should('be.visible')
cy.screenshot(`responsive-${size.name}`, { capture: 'viewport' })
})
}
})
Replace / and the navigation assertion with the route and readiness check that match your application. The example dimensions are custom test sizes, not a claim that each represents a standard physical device. Cypress documents the viewport command and screenshot command.

To catch responsive behavior, match the viewport to the CSS breakpoints and widths that matter to your page. A named preset is convenient when its dimensions fit your test; explicit width and height are more precise when you need to probe a breakpoint or a particular design width.

Use a documented preset
Cypress documents presets including iphone-5 (320 × 568), iphone-6 (375 × 667), ipad-2 and ipad-mini (768 × 1024), and macbook-13 (1280 × 800). For example:
cy.viewport('iphone-6')
cy.visit('/')
cy.get('nav').should('be.visible')
cy.screenshot('responsive-iphone-6', { capture: 'viewport' })
For landscape orientation, pass the orientation as the second argument. Cypress reverses the preset’s width and height:
cy.viewport('iphone-6', 'landscape')
A preset is a viewport-size shortcut, not complete physical-device emulation: Cypress does not simulate devicePixelRatio. See the preset and orientation details in Cypress’s API reference.

Set project, suite, or test defaults
Cypress starts with a 1000 × 660 application viewport unless project configuration changes it. Set viewportWidth and viewportHeight in configuration for project defaults, or use test configuration for suite- or test-scoped defaults. The active test can also change size with cy.viewport(width, height) or a preset. Cypress resets the viewport to its configured default between tests.
Starting with Cypress 16.0.0, changing viewportWidth or viewportHeight through Cypress.config() during test execution throws an error. Use cy.viewport() for an in-test change, or scoped test configuration for defaults. Consult the configuration reference for configuration details.
Capture the visible screen, the full page, or an element
For a single responsive screen, specify capture: 'viewport'. Cypress’s default screenshot mode is fullPage, which captures the application from top to bottom. The other documented mode, runner, includes the browser viewport and Cypress Command Log. To capture just a selected element, call .screenshot() on that element instead.

Images go into the configured screenshots folder, which defaults to cypress/screenshots. Cypress can also save screenshots when tests fail during cypress run. See the screenshots and videos guide for folder and failure-screenshot behavior.

1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteMake captures stable and useful
Wait for the content you want to inspect before taking the screenshot. A visibility assertion, as in the first example, confirms that an element has appeared; use an application-specific condition if visibility alone does not mean the page is ready.
Screenshot options include disabling JavaScript timers and CSS animations, blacking out selected elements, and synchronous callbacks to adjust the page before and after capture. These can help control moving clocks, animations, or sensitive content. Action-command animation settings alone do not ensure that a screenshot avoids unrelated page animation. Check Cypress’s screenshot API and visual-testing guide for details.

- INCREASED VERSATILITY: Connect to more; Plug devices straight into your monitor for increased flexibility, making your computing environment even more convenient
For pixel comparisons, keep the viewport and rendering environment consistent. Operating systems, browser versions, display scaling, and installed fonts can produce small visual differences. Cypress may scale its preview to fit the runner; its viewport documentation says that preview scaling does not affect application calculations or behavior.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Know what Cypress screenshots do—and do not do
cy.screenshot() saves an image; it does not compare that image with a baseline. If you need visual regression checks, use a comparison workflow. Cypress’s visual-testing guide names Percy by BrowserStack as a service that captures DOM snapshots during Cypress tests and renders them across browsers and responsive widths. That documentation mention does not establish current availability or terms.
If the goal is simply to capture the page in your Cypress test, viewport sizing plus cy.screenshot() is sufficient. If you need automated change detection or cross-browser rendering comparisons, account for that as a separate capability.
