To capture a mobile website open in Firefox for Android, run Firefox inside an Android Virtual Device (AVD), navigate to the page, then use the Android Emulator’s Take screenshot control and save the PNG to your computer. For repeatable or scripted captures, use ADB to capture the emulator display and write the image directly to your host computer.
Set up Firefox in an Android emulator
- In Android Studio, create and start an Android Virtual Device (AVD). Choose the Android version and hardware profile you need. If the screenshot must be reproducible, note the AVD profile, Android version/API level, and emulator configuration. See Android’s AVD setup guide.
- Install Firefox for Android in the running emulator. Mozilla’s contributor guide describes downloading an APK and dragging it onto the virtual device: Firefox for Android installation guidance. That guide was last updated September 4, 2023, so check Mozilla’s current distribution details if you need instructions for a particular release.
- Open Firefox, visit the mobile website, and scroll to the position you want to capture. Allow the page and dynamic content to settle; the screenshot records what is displayed at that moment.
Capture and save with the Emulator toolbar
- With Firefox and the target page visible in the running AVD, click the Emulator’s Take screenshot button.
- Review the screenshot dialog. Android documents options to recapture, edit, or copy the image.
- Click Save, then choose a filename and destination on your computer. The default filename is timestamp-based, and the saved image is a PNG. See Android Emulator documentation.
- Open the saved file and check the browser chrome, scroll position, overlays, and whether page content finished loading. The documentation does not promise one universal output resolution; check the saved image and the AVD you selected.
Capture from the command line with ADB
ADB captures the displayed device screen, so bring Firefox and the page to the foreground in the emulator before running a capture command. Android documents two useful ways to save the screenshot on your computer:

Stream the PNG directly to your computer
adb exec-out screencap -p > screen.png
This writes the PNG stream to screen.png in the current host directory. The screencap command captures the device display. See Android’s ADB documentation.
Save on the virtual device, then copy the file
adb shell screencap /sdcard/screen.png
adb pull /sdcard/screen.png
The first command creates the image on the emulator; the second copies it to the current directory on your computer.

Select the intended emulator when more than one device is connected
If multiple emulators or Android devices are attached, explicitly target the one showing Firefox rather than assuming ADB will select it. Android’s command-line guide explains device targeting and notes that ADB may use the first device when no target is specified: ADB device targeting.
Which capture method should you use?
| Need | Method | What it provides |
|---|---|---|
| One-off capture with visual review | Emulator toolbar → Take screenshot → Save | A dialog to recapture, edit, copy, or save a PNG. |
| Scripted capture saved directly on the computer | adb exec-out screencap -p > screen.png |
PNG output streamed to a host file. |
| Capture first stored on the virtual device | adb shell screencap /sdcard/screen.png, then adb pull |
A device-side PNG copied to the host. |
The documentation does not compare speed, reliability, or image quality across these methods. The toolbar is a practical choice when you want to inspect the dialog before saving; ADB is useful when you want command-line file handling.

What the screenshot includes—and which Firefox tools are different
The Emulator and ADB capture the displayed Android device screen. Open the website in Firefox for Android inside the AVD first; these workflows do not invoke a Firefox-only page-capture feature.
- Firefox desktop Screenshots: Mozilla’s instructions cover desktop-browser actions such as selecting a visible area, full page, or region. They do not describe capturing Firefox for Android on an AVD: Firefox Screenshots help.
- Physical Android phone buttons: Mozilla documents device button combinations, which vary by phone and Android version. For an emulator, use its toolbar or ADB instead: Firefox for Android screenshot help.
- ScreenshotGo: Mozilla says this separate Android app is no longer supported and will not receive further updates, so it is not a current solution to recommend: ScreenshotGo end-of-life notice.
Common problems and fixes
- The screenshot shows the wrong app or page: Return to the emulator and bring Firefox with the intended page to the foreground, then capture again.
- The page looks incomplete: Wait for visible content or overlays to settle, then recapture. A screenshot records the display at capture time; it does not ensure that a site’s dynamic content has finished loading.
- The command captures the wrong device: Check the connected-device list and explicitly target the intended emulator using ADB’s device-selection options described in the ADB guide.
- You cannot find the saved image: For toolbar captures, check the destination selected in the save dialog. For ADB, check the host command’s current directory; the direct-stream command writes there, while
adb pullcopies the device file to the host location you specify or the current directory. - The image dimensions are unexpected: The output size depends on the selected emulator configuration; Android’s cited procedure does not establish a universal pixel size. Inspect the saved PNG rather than assuming a fixed resolution.
Or skip the browser setup
If you need a website screenshot rather than an image of the full emulator display, ScreenshotNeo provides a screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request returns an image or PDF. Its clean-shot options accept cookie or consent banners like a visitor and remove 60+ known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and responses report the page verdict and billing status. AI agents can use its MCP tools, including take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf.
For example, capture a page as WebP with cURL (replace the example URL if needed):
