To fit everyone into an iPhone group selfie, bring people close together, switch to the front camera, and widen the framing until every face is visible. If you want to be in the photo too, position the iPhone apart from the group and use the Camera app’s photo timer.
How do I fit everyone in an iPhone selfie?
- Bring the group together. Close large gaps and make sure faces are unobstructed. Apple recommends bringing people close together for a warmer, more connected group picture. Ask everyone to look toward the lens.
- Open Camera and switch to the front-facing camera. Check the framing on screen, then use the selfie zoom or framing control available on your iPhone to widen the view as needed. The controls vary by model, so use the options shown in your Camera app.
- Choose portrait or landscape framing. Use the orientation that gives everyone enough room in the frame. On supported models, landscape can accommodate more people; you do not need to force one orientation for every group.
- Take the photo and check the result. Make sure no one is hidden at the edge or looking away. Relaxed outtakes can make a group photo feel more natural, so you need not rely on one rigid pose.
Can Center Stage fit more people automatically?
On supported iPhones, Center Stage can automatically widen the front-camera frame when a face is near the edge. Its Auto Rotate option can also switch the composition to landscape to accommodate more people. Apple’s current iPhone guide lists iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and iPhone Air for this photo framing feature; do not expect the same automatic controls on other models.

Turn on Center Stage framing
- In Camera, switch to the front-facing camera and open the auto-framing controls.
- Enable Auto Zoom to let the frame widen when needed. Enable Auto Rotate if you want the camera to rotate the composition to landscape when that helps fit the group.
- Keep everyone looking at the camera and within 10 feet of it for best results, as Apple recommends.
Apple says these settings are saved after adjustment. If you manually change the zoom or rotation, the selected Center Stage settings turn off; reopen the framing controls and enable them again if you want automatic framing.

How can I get in the group photo too?
- Position the iPhone where it can frame the whole group. A stable surface may work; a tripod with a phone holder is an optional way to keep the phone steady.
- In Camera, set a photo timer, then move into the group before the photo is taken. Apple notes that a timer gives the photographer time to join the picture.
- Bring everyone close together, look toward the lens, and take another frame if someone was obscured or looking away.
How do I make the saved selfie match the preview?
If you want the saved front-camera photo to match the mirrored preview, go to Settings > Camera > Mirror Front Camera and turn it on. Leave it off if you prefer the usual unmirrored result.

Handheld selfie or timed group shot?

Why can’t I find Auto Zoom or Auto Rotate?
Those are Center Stage photo framing options, not universal iPhone Camera controls. Apple lists iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and iPhone Air as supported. On other devices, use the manual selfie framing and orientation controls shown in Camera; do not expect automatic face detection or auto rotation.
For technical context, Apple describes the Center Stage front camera discussed at WWDC26 as having a 95-degree field of view. That figure applies to the named Center Stage front camera, not to every iPhone front camera.
