On Windows 11, install Selenium for Python, then use webdriver.Chrome() to open a page and driver.save_screenshot(path) to save a PNG of the current browser window. With modern Selenium, Selenium Manager usually handles ChromeDriver setup for you, so try the workflow below before downloading a driver manually.
Set up Selenium in Windows 11
Use PowerShell to create a project folder, make a virtual environment, activate it, and install Selenium. A virtual environment keeps this project’s Python packages separate from other projects.

Create and activate a virtual environment, then install Selenium:

If PowerShell blocks activation because of its execution policy, you can run the script using the virtual environment’s Python directly: . .venvScriptspython.exe -m pip install -U selenium, then use . .venvScriptspython.exe screenshot.py to run the script. These setup commands are standard Python guidance; they were not tested on a Windows 11 machine for this article.
Capture a website to a known PNG path
Save the following as screenshot.py. It writes the image to the current user’s Pictures folder, creates that folder if needed, checks whether Selenium reports a successful save, and closes the browser even if navigation or capture raises an error.

python screenshot.pywebdriver.Chrome() starts Chrome, get() navigates to the URL, and save_screenshot() saves a PNG of the current window. Selenium’s examples use driver.quit() to end the session cleanly. See the Selenium WebDriver documentation and its driver setup guidance.

Wait for the content you need before capturing
Navigation completing does not guarantee that every site’s asynchronous content, images, or client-side updates have finished. For dynamic pages, wait for a meaningful element or state before calling save_screenshot(). Selenium supports explicit waits for conditions; select a condition that matches the page rather than relying on one fixed delay for every site.
The basic call captures the current browser window. It does not, by itself, promise to stitch a long document into a full-page image. If you only need one part of the page, Selenium also documents taking a screenshot of a specific element; that is distinct from capturing the whole document.

Usually, no: start with webdriver.Chrome(). Selenium Manager can resolve and manage the browser driver in most supported environments. If automatic startup fails, or your organization requires a separately managed driver, check which Chrome version is installed and use a ChromeDriver with the corresponding major version. Selenium’s Chrome guidance says, “By default, Selenium 4 is compatible with Chrome v75 and greater,” and also says Chrome and ChromeDriver major versions should match. Treat that as general compatibility guidance, not a substitute for checking the actual release.
For a manually managed driver, use Google’s Chrome for Testing availability and version-selection information to find the appropriate release for your Chrome version. Selenium’s Chrome-specific documentation covers its Chrome support and driver guidance.

Troubleshoot startup and saved-file problems

Chrome will not start or driver startup raises an exception: Check the complete exception text and the installed Chrome version. Try Selenium Manager first. If you installed

Driver setup cannot download or resolve a driver: A proxy, firewall, or network policy may prevent driver downloads. Check whether the environment permits Selenium Manager’s required network access; if not, arrange a compatible driver through your organization’s approved process.

The script says it saved the screenshot, but you cannot find it: The example uses the current Windows user’s home directory. Read the printed full path, then confirm that the account running Python can write to that folder.

The file is missing or the save check fails: Confirm the destination is writable and that its parent directory exists. The example creates the parent folder and raises an error if Selenium returns
False. -
The screenshot is blank or misses content: Check that the target URL loaded and that the page reached the state you intended to capture. For pages with delayed content, wait for a relevant element or condition before taking the screenshot.

When diagnosing an unresolved error, record the Selenium package version, Chrome version, any separately installed ChromeDriver version, the full exception text, network or proxy restrictions, and whether the output path is writable. The exact Windows 11 script above has not been independently tested on a Windows host.
