Open the page and use your phone’s screenshot controls: Data Saver manages network data, while a screenshot is a device action.
Take a screenshot with Android Data Saver on
- Open the website in your browser and show the part of the page you want to save. Data Saver can remain enabled.
- Press Power and Volume down at the same time. On phones where that does not work, briefly hold Power and choose Screenshot if the option appears. Button behavior and menus vary by manufacturer and Android version. Google’s Android Help documents these common controls and advises checking the phone maker’s instructions if they do not work.
- Tap the screenshot preview if you want to crop, edit, or share the image.
Capture more of a long webpage
On Android 12 and later, many devices offer a scrolling screenshot for screens that support scrolling. After taking a screenshot, tap Capture more and adjust the crop guides to include additional content. This option is not guaranteed for every browser page or phone; Google qualifies it as working on most screens that allow scrolling. See Android Help’s instructions.

Find the saved screenshot
In Google Photos, look under Collections → On this device → Screenshots. Depending on the phone and its software, screenshots may instead appear in the manufacturer’s Gallery app, usually in a Screenshots album. Google’s Android Help describes the Photos location.

Why Data Saver usually does not affect screenshots
Android’s Data Saver is about app network access: it reduces data use or restricts apps’ background data, with controls for which apps can use data and when. The built-in screenshot shortcut is a separate local device operation, so there is generally no need to disable Data Saver just to save what is on screen. This is general guidance, not a guarantee for every customized phone or app. The Android Open Source Project describes Data Saver as a way to reduce or block app data use.

System Data Saver is not the same as Chrome’s historical feature
Older Chrome material used “Data Saver” for browser-side data compression and optimization. A 2016 Google post describes that historical feature, not the current Android system setting; do not rely on it to explain present-day screenshot behavior. Google’s 2016 Chrome post is historical context only.
When the website is inside another app
A link opened inside a social, email, or other app may use Android WebView rather than the full Chrome browser. WebView does not include Chrome-specific features such as Sync and Data Saver, and the host app can affect what controls are available. Chrome for Developers explains WebView’s differences.

Fix common screenshot problems
- The shortcut does nothing: Try the Power-button menu’s Screenshot option, if available, and check the phone maker’s instructions for the exact model. The button combination can vary. Google recommends contacting the manufacturer if its documented controls do not work.
- The image does not save: Check available storage and whether the phone’s buttons work properly. Google lists low storage and faulty buttons among possible screenshot problems. Review Android’s screenshot troubleshooting guidance.
- A screenshot is blocked: Some apps disable screenshots, and some browsers may restrict them in incognito mode. That is an app or browser privacy limitation, not evidence that Data Saver caused the failure; behavior differs between apps. Google notes these possible restrictions.
- Capture more is missing: Confirm that the phone runs Android 12 or later and that the current screen supports scrolling capture. Not every scrollable-looking browser page is supported.
- The page is embedded in another app: Try opening the same URL in a full browser if appropriate. If the issue persists, identify the host app and phone model; WebView does not have full Chrome feature parity. WebView documentation.
