On Android, Chrome’s built-in long capture is under More > Share > Long screenshot. To capture only what is on screen, use Android’s screenshot controls instead. On desktop, a Chrome DevTools command for a full-page capture is described in a Chrome Community answer, but it is not confirmed by a current official Chrome desktop help page.
The right method depends on whether you want the visible screen or a longer page, and whether you’re using Android or desktop Chrome. Here are the documented steps, what to expect, and how to handle the cases where a menu or command isn’t available.
Choose the capture you need
A screenshot of the visible screen and a full-page screenshot are different captures. A visible-screen capture records the portion currently shown; a long or full-page capture is intended to include content beyond that area. On Android, Chrome offers a long screenshot option. Google’s Android system controls also offer scrolling capture on supported devices and screens. For desktop Chrome, the full-page method below comes from a community answer rather than an official Chrome desktop guide.
- Android, a longer image of a page: try Chrome’s Long screenshot from the Share menu.
- Android, the current screen: use the device screenshot controls.
- Android, a scrollable screen beyond the viewport: use the system’s Capture more option when it is available.
- Desktop, a full page: use the DevTools command described below, understanding that its availability may vary by Chrome version.
If your aim is to record a page for reference, sharing or annotation, an image screenshot may be enough. If you need a file from a URL rather than a capture of the browser you are currently using, see the ScreenshotNeo option near the end.

Take a long screenshot in Chrome on Android
Chrome’s Android sharing flow includes a Long screenshot option. You can choose how much of the page to include by adjusting the crop handles before confirming. Google’s instructions say the resulting capture can be edited, shared, copied into another app or saved. Menu wording and availability can differ with the Chrome app version or device.
- Open the page in Chrome.
- Tap More, then tap Share.
- Choose Long screenshot.
- Drag the crop handles to include the part of the page you want.
- Tap Confirm.
- Choose whether to edit, share, copy into another app or save the image.
This is the Chrome sharing route, not the same thing as Android’s system screenshot tool. If you don’t see Long screenshot, confirm you are using Chrome on Android and have opened Share from Chrome’s More menu. Labels may vary by app version or device; Google’s current guidance for the flow is in Chrome Help: Share pages in Chrome on Android.
Use Android’s screenshot controls
Android also has a device-level screenshot action. It captures the screen through the operating system rather than Chrome’s Long screenshot share flow. Google documents pressing Power + Volume down together. Some phones provide an alternate route through the Power button, so the exact control can depend on the phone.

- Open the Chrome page and position it as you want it to appear in the capture.
- Press Power + Volume down at the same time. If that combination is not available on your phone, check the device’s screenshot instructions for its alternate Power-button route.
- Use the screenshot preview or available system controls to save or share the capture.
For a scrolling capture, Google documents tapping Capture more after taking the initial screenshot on Android 12 and later. It works on most screens that allow scrolling, not every screen. If the option does not appear, that does not necessarily indicate a Chrome problem: the operating system only offers it on supported screens. See Google’s Android screenshot and screen-recording instructions for the device-level steps and qualifications.
Capture a full page in desktop Chrome with DevTools
A Chrome Community answer dated March 6, 2025 describes a DevTools route for a full-size screenshot. It uses Chrome’s command menu and the command Capture full size screenshot. Treat this as a community-described workflow, not a guaranteed or officially documented feature: commands and behavior can vary between Chrome versions.
- Open the page you want to capture in desktop Chrome.
- Open DevTools. On Windows, press Ctrl+Shift+I. On Mac, press Cmd+Option+I.
- Open the DevTools command menu. On Windows, press Ctrl+Shift+P. On Mac, press Cmd+Shift+P.
- Type capture full size screenshot into the command menu.
- Select the matching command if it appears, then wait for Chrome to produce the capture.
The shortcut sequences and command are those given in the community answer; they are not evidence that every Chrome release exposes the same command. If the command is missing, confirm that the command menu has focus and that you typed the phrase in DevTools rather than the web page. If it still does not appear, your Chrome version may not offer this route. The dated explanation is in the Chrome Community screenshot thread.

What to do when screenshot capture is unavailable
The Long screenshot option is missing
Check that you opened the page in Chrome on Android and selected More > Share in Chrome. Do not look for Chrome’s Long screenshot in Android’s system screenshot controls: they are separate routes. Google notes that labels may differ by Chrome app version or device. If the option remains unavailable, use the device-level screenshot controls instead; scrolling capture may be offered as Capture more after the initial shot on supported Android screens.
Capture more does not appear
The documented Android scrolling capture applies to Android 12 and later and to most screens that allow scrolling, so it is not universal. Make sure you have taken the initial screenshot first. If the screen is not eligible or the phone does not expose the feature, use Chrome’s Long screenshot option for a page when available.
The DevTools command does not appear
The desktop sequence is described in a community response, and Chrome versions can differ. Verify the operating-system shortcut, open the DevTools command menu, and enter the full command wording. If no matching command is offered, the documented route may not be available in your version; the community answer does not establish a universal fallback.

A managed device prevents capture
On a work- or school-managed Chrome setup, an administrator may restrict screenshots. Chrome Enterprise documentation describes screenshot prevention for managed users or browsers with a Chrome Enterprise Premium license, on supported platforms. This is not a restriction that applies to every personal Chrome installation. If the capture controls are blocked on a managed device, ask the organization’s administrator whether its policy allows screenshots. See Chrome Enterprise and Education Help: Set Chrome policies for users or browsers.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Use a screenshot API when you need a capture from a URL
The Chrome and Android instructions above are for capturing a page you have open yourself. For a developer workflow that needs an image or PDF from a URL, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. A single GET request can return a screenshot in PNG, JPEG or WebP, or a PDF. It captures a web page from its URL; it is not a way to capture the current contents of your personal Chrome window. Visit ScreenshotNeo for product information.
Or skip the browser setup:
Here is the cURL call using the supplied example URL. Replace the URL with the page you want to capture and set your API key. The ScreenshotNeo documentation covers the API.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
The request returns a clean screenshot as PNG, JPEG or WebP, or a PDF. The same endpoint can be called from Python or Node.js:
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
Before capture, ScreenshotNeo accepts the cookie or consent banner like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets; each of those steps can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits cost nothing, and response headers identify the page verdict and whether it was billed. An MCP server offers take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf for Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients.

Make the capture fit its purpose
Before saving or sharing, check that the screenshot includes the section you intended. On Android Long screenshot, set its length with the crop handles before confirming. With a system scrolling capture, use it only when Android offers Capture more for that screen. For the desktop DevTools route, check whether Chrome produced a full-size capture rather than assuming the command worked because you selected it.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor an image that will be circulated, consider whether it reveals private information visible on screen, such as account details or personal messages. A screenshot records what was visible at capture time; it is not the same as a link to the live page. Keep the saved or shared image in the format and location appropriate to your task.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can Chrome’s Android Long screenshot save a PDF?
Google describes the result as a screenshot image that can be edited, shared, copied into another app or saved; its instructions do not describe a PDF export from that flow.
Does a screenshot preserve the page as editable HTML?
No. The Chrome and Android procedures here produce a visual capture, not an editable copy of the page’s source or structure.
