Method 1: Use the hardware button shortcut
This is the fastest, most universal option for Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro.
- Go to the screen you want to capture.
- Press and hold Power and Volume Down at the same time.
- Hold for about 1 second, then release.
- Watch for the screenshot preview or a brief flash animation.
- Tap the preview to edit, or swipe it away to dismiss.
If you have trouble: try pressing both buttons simultaneously (not one after the other) and hold slightly longer before releasing.
Method 2: Take a screenshot from the Power menu
On many Pixel builds, you can capture a screenshot from the power options menu—handy if button combinations are uncomfortable.
- Press and hold the Power button.
- When the menu appears, look for Screenshot.
- Tap Screenshot.
- Confirm via the preview that appears.
If you don’t see the Screenshot option, your current software build may not offer it in that menu.
Method 3: Use gesture or accessibility-based shortcuts
Depending on your Pixel software version and settings, you may have screenshot gestures or accessibility shortcuts enabled.
Gesture: Swipe to screenshot (if enabled)
Some Android builds support a gesture like a three-finger swipe. If your Pixel supports it and it’s enabled, it’s quick and doesn’t involve physical buttons.

- Open the Settings app.
- Go to Accessibility.
- Find screenshot-related gesture options such as Magnification, Gestures, or Accessibility menu (exact labels vary by Android version).
- Enable the screenshot gesture if available.
- Return to your screen and use the gesture to capture.
If you can’t find any screenshot gesture setting, skip this method and use the button shortcut.
Recommended Free Tools
Accessibility menu (fallback)
If button presses are difficult, you can use an accessibility menu and trigger screenshot actions from there (availability depends on your configuration).
- Open Settings.
- Tap Accessibility.
- Enable Accessibility menu (if present).
- Use the on-screen menu to select the Screenshot option (if shown in your menu).
Not all accessibility menu layouts include screenshot. If you don’t see it, use Method 1.
Method 4: Capture scrolling content (if available)
Pixel devices may offer a “scrolling screenshot” option that captures more than what’s visible on the screen.
- Take a screenshot using Power + Volume Down.
- When the preview appears, look for an option like Capture more or Scroll.
- Tap that option to automatically extend the capture.
- Stop when you’ve captured the area you need.
- Save the final image from the preview.
If you don’t see a “capture more” option, scrolling screenshots may not be supported for that screen (some apps and secure views block it).

By default, screenshots are stored in the Pictures directory. The path can vary slightly based on Android version and device setup.

| Google Photos (often appears automatically) | Open Photos and look under Library → Photos or search for screenshots |

If you used a messaging app or a cloud-synced workflow, the screenshot may also show up in that app’s recent media.
How to edit, share, and manage screenshots
Pixel’s screenshot preview typically includes quick tools so you can crop, annotate, or share immediately.
Edit from the screenshot preview
- After taking a screenshot, tap the preview that appears.
- Use editing controls to crop or annotate (pen/marker style tools may vary).
- Tap Save or the checkmark to keep changes.
If you dismiss the preview, you can still edit later by opening the image in Photos or using the built-in editor.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Share and send
- Open the screenshot in Photos or Files.
- Tap Share (the icon usually looks like an upward arrow).
- Select the app (Messages, Gmail, WhatsApp, email attachments, etc.).
- Send.
Organize if you take lots of screenshots
Long-term, organization matters. The most reliable approach is to periodically move important screenshots into a dedicated album in Google Photos or create folders in your Files app.
Troubleshooting: Screenshot not working or not saving
If your Pixel 6 screenshot isn’t triggering (no preview, no saved file), use these checks in order.
1) Confirm the button press timing
- Try Power + Volume Down again.
- Press both simultaneously and hold about 1 second.
- Release at the same time.
Common failure cause: pressing Power first, then Volume Down a fraction later.

2) Look for the screenshot preview
Even if it doesn’t save, you should usually see a quick preview. If you see a preview but can’t find the file, check the storage locations (Google Photos or Pictures → Screenshots).
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

- Press and hold Power.
- Tap Restart.
- After reboot, test screenshot on the home screen.
If screenshots work on the home screen, the issue may be app-specific.
4) Check for storage or permissions issues
If your storage is nearly full, apps and system features can behave inconsistently. Free up space and try again.
- Go to Settings → Storage.
- Free space by deleting large files you don’t need.
- Try another screenshot.
5) Test with a different app or screen
Some content is protected (banking apps, streaming DRM, some secure work profiles). If screenshots work on a regular app but not a specific one, that app may be blocking capture.
6) Try alternative methods
- Use the Power menu method (press and hold Power → look for Screenshot).
- If enabled, try any available gesture-based screenshot method.
- If buttons are unreliable, consider accessibility options.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming one button works alone: On Pixel 6, you generally need the combo (Power + Volume Down) unless you’re using the Power menu.
- Pressing too briefly: Hold long enough to trigger the capture animation.
- Dismissing the preview too fast: You might miss a “Save” or “Capture more” step—especially for scrolling screenshots.
- Looking in the wrong place: Always check both Google Photos and the Files app’s Screenshots folder.
- Expecting screenshots from protected content: Some apps block capture by design.
Pixel 6 vs Pixel 6 Pro: do screenshots differ?
In practice, screenshot controls are the same across Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro because both run the Pixel software stack and use the same screenshot shortcuts.
The only real differences you’ll notice are display size and how much content fits on-screen—not how screenshots are taken, saved, or edited.

FAQs
Why don’t I see the screenshot preview after pressing Power + Volume Down?
Most often it’s timing (buttons not pressed simultaneously). Try holding about 1 second together, then release together. Also test on the home screen to rule out app-specific restrictions.
Where do my Pixel 6 screenshots go if I use Google Photos?
They usually appear in Photos automatically. You can also confirm in the Files app under Pictures → Screenshots.
Can I take screenshots during a video or streaming session?
Sometimes, but not always. Apps with DRM or “secure playback” often block screenshots. If the screenshot tool silently fails in that app, it’s typically by design.
How do I screenshot a long webpage?
Take a normal screenshot, then use the preview option like Capture more or Scroll (if it appears). If you don’t see it, the app may not support scrolling screenshots.
What if I accidentally overwrote or deleted a screenshot?
Check Google Photos trash/bin first. If it’s not there, the system folder may have been cleared—restoring may not be possible without backups.
Bottom Line
On a Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro, the reliable default method is Power + Volume Down. After that, you can manage your capture from the preview or find it in Google Photos and the Pictures → Screenshots folder.
If screenshots won’t trigger, focus on button timing, storage space, and whether the app screen you’re capturing is protected.
