For a page that extends below the screen, use Scroll capture from the screenshot toolbar after taking the first shot. Samsung’s menus and button layouts vary by model, software version and carrier.
The standard Samsung screenshot shortcut
The built-in button shortcut is the most broadly available method because it does not require a gesture or setting to be enabled.
- Open the screen you want to save.
- Press the Power/Side button and Volume Down at the same time.
- Release both buttons when the screen flashes or the screenshot controls appear. A brief, simultaneous press is more reliable than holding the buttons for a long time.
- Use the toolbar that appears if you need to crop, annotate or start a scroll capture. If you dismiss it, the image remains saved.
Button locations differ between Galaxy models. On some phones the Side button is below the volume rocker; on others the arrangement is reversed. Identify the buttons by their labels rather than by a fixed position.

Galaxy devices with a physical Home button
Some older Galaxy phones use Power + Home for screenshots. Press and release those two buttons together and wait for the flash or screenshot toolbar. If your device has no physical Home button, use Power/Side + Volume Down.
Button-free and alternative methods
Palm swipe to capture
Palm swipe can capture the screen without pressing hardware keys, but it is not available on every Galaxy model or software version.
- Open Settings > Advanced features > Motions and gestures.
- Find the palm-swipe capture setting and turn it on if it is present.
- Place the edge of your hand on one side of the display and swipe across the screen.
The gesture may not work while the on-screen keyboard is open. Hide the keyboard and try again, or use the button shortcut. If the setting is missing, Samsung does not support that gesture on your particular device or software build.
Scroll capture for long pages
Scroll capture combines a normal screenshot with additional portions of content below it. It works when the current screen can scroll and the screenshot toolbar offers the Scroll capture control.

- Take a normal screenshot with the method that works on your device.
- Tap Scroll capture on the toolbar.
- Continue tapping the scroll-capture button until the image includes the section you need, then stop.
This is intended for scrollable webpages, documents and similar screens. It is not a universal full-page capture command: if the screen cannot scroll, or the app does not expose scrollable content, the option may not appear.
S Pen Screen write and voice commands
Supported Galaxy setups may offer S Pen Screen write or a voice command as additional ways to capture or mark up a screen. These are optional, device-specific features, not requirements for taking a basic screenshot. If your model lacks the relevant command or S Pen support, use the button shortcut instead.
Where Samsung saves the image
Open Gallery > Albums > Screenshots to view captures. Samsung also documents locating the files through My Files; use that route when you need to browse folders rather than albums.
If you do not see the image immediately, return to Gallery and open the Screenshots album instead of relying on the thumbnail toolbar. A screenshot that was saved can still be found there after the toolbar disappears.

Troubleshooting a failed screenshot
Nothing happens when you press the buttons
- Press both buttons at exactly the same time and release at the flash. Pressing one noticeably earlier can trigger a normal volume or power action instead.
- Check that you are using the Side/Power button and Volume Down, not Volume Up.
- If a thick case prevents a button from traveling, remove the case temporarily and retry.
- On a model with a physical Home button, try Power + Home instead.
A power menu or another command appears
This usually means the buttons were held too long or were not pressed together. Start again and release as soon as the display flashes. The exact timing can vary by model, so do not rely on a universal hold duration.
Palm swipe is unavailable or inconsistent
- Confirm that Settings > Advanced features > Motions and gestures contains the palm-swipe option and that it is enabled.
- Close the keyboard; Samsung notes that the gesture is unavailable while the keyboard is showing.
- Swipe with the edge of your hand across the display, not with a fingertip.
- If the setting does not exist, use the button method because gesture support is model- and software-dependent.
Scroll capture does not appear
The toolbar shows Scroll capture only when Samsung detects content that can scroll. Try it on a webpage or document with more content below the current view. A static screen, a short page or an app that prevents scrolling will not provide the control.
The phone says screenshots are blocked
Some apps and screens block screenshots for security or privacy reasons. That restriction is enforced by the app or operating system; switching from buttons to palm swipe, S Pen or another built-in method is not a legitimate workaround. Respect the restriction and use an approved export or sharing function provided by the app, if one exists.
The menus do not match these instructions
Samsung changes labels and available features by model, software release and market. Carrier software can also alter screens and settings. For an older or unusual Galaxy device, check its device manual or the Samsung support page for the country where it was sold rather than assuming that another Galaxy model uses the same menu.

Quality, timing and practical edge cases
Capture exactly what is visible
A standard screenshot records the current display, including visible notifications, navigation controls and any overlay that is on screen. Before pressing the buttons, close transient menus and position the page at the exact point you want to preserve.
Use scroll capture selectively
Long captures are useful for reading or sharing a complete article, but they can be harder to inspect than several shorter images. Stop tapping when the needed section is included. Scroll capture follows the app’s scrollable content, so unusual layouts may produce a result that differs from a manually stitched image.
Protect private information
Review the image before sharing it. Account names, message previews and other details visible on the display become part of the saved screenshot. If you need to send a screen recording or document instead, use the app’s own export controls when available.
