On an iPad, take a normal screenshot, open its thumbnail, select Full Page, then save the result as an image in Photos or as a PDF in Files. The option is designed for content that extends below the screen, especially an entire webpage in Safari.
Take a long screenshot on an iPad
The process is the same on current iPadOS versions, but the first button combination depends on whether your iPad has Face ID or a Home button.
iPad without a Home button (Face ID models)
- Open the webpage or other long content you want to capture.
- Quickly press and release the top button and either volume button at the same time. Do not hold them; a quick press creates the screenshot.
- Tap the screenshot thumbnail that appears in the lower-left corner.
- At the top of the editor, tap Full Page.
- Use the preview strip to inspect the entire capture. Drag through it to move up and down, and use the crop controls if you need to remove unwanted portions.
- Tap Done, then choose Save to Photos for an image or Save PDF to Files for a PDF.
iPad with a Home button
- Open the long webpage or document.
- Quickly press and release the top button and the Home button together.
- Tap the thumbnail in the lower-left corner, select Full Page, review or crop the preview, and tap Done.
- Choose Save to Photos or Save PDF to Files.
What Full Page captures
Full Page extends the capture beyond the visible screen. Apple’s iPad guide specifically describes capturing content that exceeds the screen, such as an entire webpage in Safari. It is therefore useful for saving a long article, instructions, receipt, or reference page without stitching many separate screenshots together.
The resulting file is not necessarily a conventional, screen-sized image. When you choose Save PDF to Files, iPadOS creates a PDF that can contain the complete scrollable page. Save to Photos stores the image-format result in your photo library. The export choices shown by Apple are those two destinations; the exact presentation can vary with the content you opened.

Save, find, and share the result
Save as an image
Choose Done → Save to Photos. Open Photos and look in the most recent items. From there you can crop, mark up, share, or add the image to an album. A very tall image may be awkward to view in some apps, so use the PDF option when the recipient needs page navigation or printing.
Save as a PDF
Choose Done → Save PDF to Files, select a folder, rename the file if needed, and tap Save. In Files, you can move it to iCloud Drive or another available location, attach it to an email, or send it to a PDF-aware app.
Crop before exporting
Full-page captures can include headers, footers, sidebars, or blank space that appeared while the page loaded. Use the crop handles in the screenshot editor before tapping Done. Cropping at this stage avoids having to edit the saved file later.

If Full Page is missing
The Full Page control is part of Apple’s supported long-content workflow, but the guide does not promise that every third-party app exposes it. If you do not see Full Page after opening the thumbnail, the app may not provide a scrollable document to the system screenshot editor.

- Try the same content in Safari when it is a webpage.
- Look for the app’s own Export, Share, Print, or Save as PDF command.
- If the content is a document, export the original document rather than capturing the screen.
- For a page that is longer than the app supports, capture several regular screenshots and label them in order as a last resort.
These fallbacks are general options, not evidence that every app supports full-page capture.

- Apple Pencil: swipe diagonally upward from either bottom corner.
- AssistiveTouch: use its configured screenshot action if you prefer an on-screen control.
- Siri: ask Siri to take a screenshot.
Those methods only start the screenshot. To make it long, you still need to open the thumbnail and choose Full Page when the option is available. An Apple Pencil is optional; it is not required for full-page screenshots.
Common problems and fixes
The screenshot does not appear
Press and release the two buttons simultaneously rather than holding them. On a Face ID iPad, use the top button and a volume button. On a Home-button iPad, use the top button and Home. If one button is difficult to press, configure AssistiveTouch or use Siri instead.

You may be in an app that does not expose long-content capture. Test the page in Safari, or use the app’s export or print-to-PDF function. A regular screenshot cannot be expanded after it has been saved.

The capture stops before the bottom
Make sure the content had finished loading before taking the screenshot. Pages that load more items as you scroll may expose only the portion available to the screenshot system at capture time. Wait for the page to settle, then try again. If the app still limits the range, export its underlying document or save multiple screenshots.
The page has pop-ups or a consent banner
Dismiss overlays before taking the screenshot. A banner that covers the page can become part of the capture, and a full-page export does not automatically remove it.
The PDF is difficult to read
Reopen the thumbnail, choose Full Page, and crop unnecessary columns or blank margins before saving. For a page designed for printing, the website’s own print or PDF export may produce a more readable layout than a screen capture.
I cannot find the saved file
Images go to Photos when you choose Save to Photos. PDFs go to the folder selected in Files. Open Files and check Recents or the destination shown in the save sheet; the two formats do not appear in the same library.

Privacy and practical checks
- Scroll through the preview before saving so private content, account details, or unrelated recommendations are not included.
- Check whether the page contains expandable sections that were not open when you captured it.
- For legal, financial, or support records, keep the original URL and date separately; a screenshot alone may not preserve interactive details.
- Use the PDF export when text needs to remain legible at different zoom levels, and use Photos when the recipient specifically needs an image.

Can I take a full-page screenshot of any iPad app?
Not necessarily. Apple documents Full Page for supported long content, with an entire Safari webpage as its example. If an app does not show Full Page, use its export or print-to-PDF feature when available.
Does a long screenshot save as a normal photo?
You can choose Save to Photos for an image, or Save PDF to Files for a PDF. Choose the format based on whether you need a visual image or a document for reading, printing, and archiving.
Do I need an Apple Pencil?
No. The top-button shortcut is sufficient. Apple Pencil, AssistiveTouch, and Siri are optional ways to initiate the screenshot.
