To capture a whole webpage on a Mac, use your browser’s full-page screenshot feature or a browser extension’s full-page command. A normal Mac screenshot captures only what is visible on screen; a full-page capture includes content below the viewport. If you prefer not to install an extension, Safari and Chrome offer developer-tool routes, while Firefox has a direct page menu option.
Choose a full-page capture method
| Browser or method | Where to start | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Safari built-in | Develop menu > Show Web Inspector | Capture without adding an extension |
| Chrome built-in | Developer Tools > Toggle Device Toolbar | Capture without adding an extension |
| Firefox built-in | Right-click page > Take a Screenshot | Quick capture, download or clipboard copy |
| Browser extension | Toolbar icon > full-page command | Convenient repeat captures or extra export options |
Prepare the webpage before capturing
- Open the page and wait for its main content to load.
- If the page loads images or other content only as you scroll, scroll all the way to the bottom once, then return to the top. This can prompt below-the-fold content to load before capture.
- Close or move anything that should not appear in the screenshot, such as menus or dialogs.
- Choose an image for visual sharing or editing. Use PDF when a document-style output is more useful, if your chosen tool supports it.
Use Safari’s built-in full-page screenshot
- In Safari, open Settings. In some versions this is called Preferences.
- Open Advanced and enable the option to show web developer features or the Develop menu. The exact wording may vary by Safari version.
- Open the webpage, then choose Develop > Show Web Inspector.
- In the Elements tab, right-click the first
htmlline and choose Capture Screenshot. - Save the generated image.
This route uses Web Inspector rather than a toolbar extension. If you specifically want a one-click extension workflow, see the extension steps below.

Use Chrome’s built-in full-page screenshot
- Open the webpage in Chrome.
- Open Developer Tools from Chrome’s More Tools menu.
- Click Toggle Device Toolbar.
- Open the menu in the left-hand page panel and choose Capture full size screenshot.
- Open the downloaded image from your Downloads location.
Use Firefox’s built-in screenshot
- Right-click the webpage and choose Take a Screenshot.
- Select Save full page.
- Choose Download to save an image, or Copy to put it on the clipboard. On macOS, Mozilla documents Command+S for saving and Command+C for copying.
Firefox also has a DevTools route: enable the “Take a screenshot of the entire page” toolbox button in DevTools Settings, then click that button. For a console-based option, Firefox’s Web Console helper :screenshot --fullpage saves a screenshot beyond the current window bounds.

Capture a full page with a browser extension
- Install an extension from your browser’s extension store and review its current permissions and data practices before enabling it.
- Open the webpage you want to capture. Scroll through the page first if it contains lazy-loaded images.
- Click the extension’s toolbar icon.
- Choose its full-page capture command and wait for the capture to finish.
- Save or export the result using the options the extension provides.
Awesome Screenshot
The vendor’s help instructions, updated December 24, 2025, describe these commands: in Chrome-compatible browsers, click the extension icon, select Capture, then Full Page; in Safari, choose Capture Full Page; in Firefox, choose Capture Entire Page. Labels and interface details can change, so follow the current extension UI if they differ.
#1 Best Overall
A Mac tutorial updated March 6, 2026, says its Awesome Screenshot Safari installation may require enabling the extension in Safari Settings and granting a screen-recording permission. Permission requirements are extension-specific; check the prompt for the extension you install rather than assuming all add-ons need the same access.
GoFullPage
The Firefox Add-ons listing describes GoFullPage as a scrolling capture extension with PNG, JPEG, and PDF export. It also says the extension can split a very large capture into multiple images if one image exceeds browser storage limits. Its listing describes crop, annotation, and emoji editing as features of a premium editor; these are vendor-listed capabilities, not a guarantee that every page will capture identically.

Troubleshoot a missing or incomplete screenshot
Below-the-fold images are missing
The page may load images only when they approach the viewport. Scroll to the bottom before starting a full-page capture, then return to the top and capture again.
The extension cannot capture the page
Extension behavior depends on the page, browser, and permissions; there is no universal compatibility guarantee. Try the browser’s built-in method, such as Firefox’s Take a Screenshot menu or the Safari or Chrome DevTools route.

The image is too large or the page is very long
A very long capture may exceed browser storage limits. The GoFullPage Firefox listing says it can split an oversized result into multiple images. If your extension does not offer splitting, try a browser’s built-in route or choose a tool with an output option suited to the page.
The extension asks for permissions
Read the current browser-store listing and the permission prompt before allowing access. Permissions differ among extensions; use the browser’s built-in feature if you do not want to install or authorize an add-on.

- For no-install capture: Firefox has a direct context-menu workflow; the documented Safari and Chrome built-in methods use developer tools.
- For a toolbar action: use a full-page command in an extension such as Awesome Screenshot, checking its current browser-specific labels.
- For PDF export or oversized captures: check the extension’s stated export and splitting options. GoFullPage’s Firefox listing describes PNG, JPEG, PDF, and splitting for very large captures.
- For privacy-sensitive pages: check the extension’s current permissions and data practices, or use a built-in browser feature when installing an add-on is unnecessary.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I take a scrolling screenshot on a Mac?
Use a browser’s full-page screenshot feature or a full-page extension command; scrolling is useful beforehand on pages that load content as you move down.
Does a full-page screenshot include content below the browser window?
Yes. A full-page capture is intended to include the webpage beyond the currently visible viewport, unlike an ordinary screen capture.
