To capture an entire webpage in desktop Chrome, open the page, launch DevTools, press Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows or Linux—or Cmd+Shift+P on Mac—type screenshot, then choose Capture full size screenshot. Chrome’s DevTools documentation says this captures the full page, including content outside the visible viewport.
Capture the entire webpage in Chrome
- Open the page in desktop Chrome.
- Open DevTools: right-click the page and choose Inspect.
- Open the Command Menu with Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows or Linux, or Cmd+Shift+P on Mac.
- Type screenshot and select Capture full size screenshot.
This built-in DevTools command captures content beyond the current viewport, so you do not need an extension for a basic full-page image. See Chrome’s documentation on running commands in the Command Menu and Device Mode.
Choose the right capture for your record
| Need | Chrome option | What it captures |
|---|---|---|
| The whole webpage as an image | Capture full size screenshot in the Command Menu | The full page, including content beyond the visible viewport |
| Only what is visible now | Capture screenshot in Device Mode’s More options menu | The current viewport |
| A specific portion of the page | Capture area screenshot in the Command Menu | The region you select by dragging |
| A paginated document for printing or filing | Chrome’s print dialog, then Save as PDF | A PDF produced through the print workflow |
For the PDF route, open Chrome’s print dialog and choose Save as PDF; see Print from Chrome. A PDF is a document workflow, not an image capture.
Check the result when documenting a dynamic page
The DevTools documentation describes the full-page command and its scope, but does not establish how every website’s lazy-loaded images, animations, sticky navigation, or other dynamic elements will appear in the saved capture. Inspect the resulting image before relying on it as a record. If important content is missing or appears in an unexpected state, the documented command alone does not guarantee how that site will render.
The documentation consulted does not specify the saved image’s file format or exact save location. Do not assume either detail; check the result in Chrome and use your normal file-management workflow to locate and organize it.

For repeatable captures in a documentation workflow, ScreenshotNeo offers a screenshot API and MCP server. Its clean-shot options can accept cookie and consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and the response identifies the page verdict and billing status in headers. AI agents can use its MCP server tools to take screenshots, get page information, or capture PDFs.
One GET request can return an image or PDF. For a quick image request, use cURL:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Replace the example URL with the page you need and provide your API key. See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for request options and response details.
