Be aware that enabling cheats permanently disables achievements in that world, even if you turn cheats off later.
Before you enable cheats: know the achievement effect
Minecraft says enabling cheats permanently stops players from unlocking achievements in that world, even if cheats are later disabled. This applies at the world level, so consider the tradeoff before changing the setting. Minecraft’s commands guide documents the effect.

- Enable cheats for the world. For Bedrock single-player, open the world’s settings, go to the Game tab, and turn on Allow Cheats. Menu labels may vary by game version.
- Choose one of the two switching methods:
- In the world settings, select Spectator from Personal Game Mode.
- In the world, enter
/gamemode spectator.
Both methods require cheats to be enabled. The official Bedrock 1.19.50 release notes document both routes and state that Spectator Mode no longer needs an experimental toggle. These are the documented controls; the exact permission flow for every Realm or multiplayer server is not established by Minecraft’s single-player commands guide.
Settings or command: which should you use?
| Method | How it works | Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Personal Game Mode | Choose Spectator in World Settings. | Cheats must be enabled. |
| Command | Enter /gamemode spectator. |
Cheats must be enabled. |
Use the setting if you prefer menus; use the command if you are already in the world and want to switch by typing. Bedrock’s older numeric command, /gamemode 6, was removed in version 1.19.30; use the named mode instead, as reflected in the 1.19.50 release notes.

What Spectator Mode changes
- You fly continuously, pass through solid blocks and entities, and can see out of solid objects while inside them.
- You cannot take damage, use items, interact with blocks or mobs, open your inventory, or use containers such as chests and furnaces.
- The HUD is reduced: the crosshair, hotbar, experience, health, hunger, and armor displays are hidden.
- Flying into new areas generates chunks, but spectators do not spawn mobs.
- Your inventory, health, and held items remain unchanged when you switch into or out of the mode.
These behaviors are described in Mojang’s Bedrock 1.19.50 notes. Spectator Mode was experimental in earlier releases; the notes for 1.19.50 say it was included in the game without an experimental toggle. Do not assume every Java Edition spectator feature is available in Bedrock: the earlier 1.19.0 Bedrock notes described limitations such as no mob view or speed control, and the later notes do not say those features were added.

Choose a different Personal Game Mode in World Settings, or use the corresponding /gamemode command for the mode you want. The 1.19.50 release notes confirm that players can switch into and out of Spectator Mode through these controls.
