A saved setup can coordinate displays, audio, windows and apps; a KVM switch solves a different problem—sharing peripherals between two computers.
First, identify what you need to switch
“One PC for my desk and my rig” can describe two different arrangements. If the same computer moves between separate desk and rig displays, you need to change that computer’s software and display configuration. If two computers share a monitor and keyboard or mouse, you need to route video and USB between the computers.

A KVM does not ordinarily restore a one-PC workspace’s window positions, audio device or application state. Conversely, a software profile does not route a monitor’s video and USB connections between two computers.
For one PC, save a profile for each place
A setup-switching utility can capture a desk configuration and a rig configuration, then apply the relevant one when you move between them. What each profile can change depends on the software and the devices Windows can see.

Build the desk profile
Arrange the desk displays as you want them, select the intended audio output, and open or position the work apps you use there. Save that state as a named setup. If the utility supports it, configure which apps should open or close when the profile is applied.
Build the rig profile
Connect or enable the rig’s display or displays, choose the intended audio device, and arrange the sim-racing apps and windows. Save this as a separate setup. Check that Windows detects the displays and that the audio devices have recognizable names; a profile can only select devices the software can identify.

Choose how to trigger the switch
Assign a different hotkey to each setup if you want to switch from the keyboard. PitLaunch’s publisher also documents game automation and control through a physical Stream Deck or Stream Deck Mobile. A dedicated physical button is optional: it triggers the software action but does not itself rearrange displays or applications.

Plan for a failed display switch
Changing display layouts can leave you with no visible screen if a display does not return as expected. PitLaunch’s publisher describes a preflight check, attempts to restore the previous displays and audio after a failed switch, and an emergency shortcut, Ctrl + Alt + Shift + F12, to turn every detected display back on. These are publisher-described safeguards, not independently verified behavior.
Do not make a setup depend on being able to reopen every app automatically. The publisher says undo cannot reopen applications that were closed. Keep a way to access a usable display configuration—for example, a known keyboard shortcut and a display that remains connected—and avoid closing unsaved work as part of a profile.

When a KVM is the right tool
For two computers sharing a display and USB peripherals, a KVM-capable monitor or external KVM switch may be appropriate. Check the exact monitor or switch documentation before buying: KVM support is model-specific, and the video inputs, USB upstream connections, resolution and refresh rate must match the whole signal path.

Monitor with built-in KVM
Dell says KVM is available only on select monitors. Its setup guidance connects each computer’s video and USB upstream connection to the monitor, then connects the keyboard and mouse to the monitor’s downstream USB ports. ASUS’s Auto KVM instructions describe model-dependent combinations of USB-C/video and HDMI or DisplayPort, and some models use a monitor function key to change sources. Follow the guide for the exact model rather than assuming every monitor’s KVM wiring or switching controls work the same way.

External KVM switch
An external switch can route video and USB peripherals when two computers share a display that lacks a suitable built-in KVM. Verify the number and type of video ports, supported resolution and refresh rate, USB needs, audio or hub requirements, and how the switch handles display identification (EDID). StarTech lists its P2AD122 for two DisplayPort computers sharing one DisplayPort display and USB peripherals, with support for 4K at 60 Hz; its source, switch and display must all support the selected resolution. That specific configuration is not a general specification for other switches, sim-racing monitors or triple-screen rigs.

- Test recovery: try each saved profile with work saved and verify how to restore a visible display if the switch fails.
