To switch between two iPhones on CarPlay, select the phone you want in your car’s connected-device or CarPlay menu. Both phones must be paired with the vehicle, and the car must support multiple CarPlay devices. The menu and its location vary by vehicle; there is no universal iPhone-side switch button.
Switch to a phone that is already paired

On the vehicle’s infotainment screen, open its connected-device, phone, or CarPlay device list. Select the iPhone you want to use. The exact menu name and path depend on the vehicle’s make, model, year, and infotainment software; consult the owner’s manual if you cannot find the selector.

Apple’s WWDC17 session “Developing Wireless CarPlay Systems” says changing the active CarPlay device should be an explicit user action. That is developer guidance for vehicle systems, not a promise that all cars use the same menu or support the same number of phones.

Pair the second iPhone if it is not listed
Set up wireless CarPlay

Put the car stereo into wireless CarPlay or Bluetooth pairing mode. Some vehicles start pairing when you press and hold the steering-wheel voice-command button.

On the iPhone, turn on Wi-Fi. If prompted to join the CarPlay network, select it and make sure Auto-Join is enabled.

On the iPhone, open Settings > General > CarPlay and select your car. Follow any prompts on the phone or vehicle screen.

Wireless pairing steps can differ by vehicle. Apple’s iPhone CarPlay guide recommends checking the vehicle manual for model-specific directions. Apple says wireless CarPlay systems can pair with more than one iPhone, but each vehicle determines its own controls and behavior.

Set up wired CarPlay
Connect the iPhone you want to use to the vehicle’s CarPlay-capable USB port. The port may be marked with a CarPlay or smartphone icon. Apple recommends using an Apple USB cable; check that the cable connector matches both your iPhone and the vehicle. A cable can establish a wired connection, but it does not guarantee that the car supports switching between two phones or provide a universal switch control.

Use the vehicle’s device list to select the phone you want; do not assume the iPhone has a universal setting for switching the active CarPlay device.

Check the vehicle manual for its pairing limit, selector location, and connection priorities. Exact behavior depends on the vehicle.

Update iOS and the vehicle’s stereo firmware, as Apple recommends in its CarPlay pairing and troubleshooting guidance.

If several phones have been connected to the stereo and it is hard to identify them, Apple suggests renaming a device. Renaming may make the list easier to read, but it is not a guaranteed fix for switching problems.
