Before switching, identify the version and platform you mean
“Classic” refers to the older PC version, identified as version 1.32 in CD PROJEKT RED’s October 1, 2026 hotfix note. “Next-Gen” commonly refers to the update 4.0 release announced in 2022 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The publisher released The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered on September 29, 2026; it is a later release, not simply another name for the 2022 Next-Gen update.

The Remastered announcement says it is a free upgrade for owners on GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, and for Switch 2 players who own the original Switch game. On supported platforms it replaces Complete Edition and includes Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. Its announced changes include visuals and performance, combat, animations, skill progression, interface, and cross-platform mod support. See CD PROJEKT RED’s Remastered announcement.
Storefront and platform matter: the documented rollback steps are for Steam and GOG Galaxy on PC. The official support page says Epic Games Store supplies only the latest available version. It does not provide console version-switching steps. The publisher’s October 1, 2026 hotfix note confirms the Classic (1.32) label remains in use, but does not detail every store’s current menu. Check the labels shown in your launcher before changing branches.

Switch versions on PC
Steam: select CLASSIC or return to the latest version
- In Steam, open your Library and right-click The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, then select Properties.
- Open Betas and choose CLASSIC to opt into the older version.
- To return to the newest version available through Steam, revisit Betas and select None.
These are the options described by CD PROJEKT RED’s Steam and PC rollback instructions. If the labels differ in your current Steam client, consult the support page and the options currently displayed in your account.
GOG Galaxy: choose Classic in Beta channels
- Open Installed in GOG Galaxy and select the game.
- Choose Manage installation → Configure.
- Under Beta channels, select Classic.
- Disable automatic updates, choose the version you want, and confirm.
- To return to the latest version, go back to the same settings and set Beta channels to Disabled.
CD PROJEKT RED’s support instructions describe these GOG Galaxy options. The page’s labels or version availability may change, so check what Galaxy currently offers before confirming.
Epic Games Store: rollback is not available in the cited instructions
CD PROJEKT RED’s support page says Epic Games Store provides only the latest available version and does not offer a rollback option. The Remastered release announcement lists Epic among supported platforms, but that does not establish a Classic branch there.

What to know before changing versions
- Compatibility: CD PROJEKT RED warns that only the latest version is fully compatible because it includes the newest improvements, fixes, and changes.
- Saves: The cited rollback guidance does not say that switching versions deletes or corrupts saves. Keep a separate backup as a precaution, not because the support page claims save loss will occur.
- Menu availability: A current hotfix note naming Classic (1.32) confirms the label is still relevant, but it does not guarantee that every platform or storefront displays the same choices.
Can you switch versions on PS5, Xbox, Switch, or Switch 2?
The official instructions covered here do not give a step-by-step console procedure for selecting Classic versus Next-Gen, or for choosing among console builds. Do not assume consoles have the PC beta-channel menus. Check your platform’s version-management options or contact CD PROJEKT RED support for platform-specific help.
Transfer a PS4 save to the PS5 Next-Gen version
Save transfer is separate from choosing a game version. CD PROJEKT RED’s instructions describe using cross-progression to move progress from PS4 to PS5:
- Update the PS4 game to version 4.04.
- Use My Rewards in the game to connect to your CD PROJEKT RED account.
- Make a save that displays the cloud icon, indicating it has been uploaded.
- Connect the PS5 Next-Gen version to the same CD PROJEKT RED account.
- Open Load Game; the uploaded save should appear there.
Follow the full PS4-to-PS5 save-transfer instructions if the save does not appear or the account connection differs. CD PROJEKT RED’s 2022 Next-Gen announcement described cross-progression as providing “the latest save for every save type.” The available save-transfer instructions establish a way to carry progress across these generations, not a console version selector.
