You can swap tokens on NEAR without depositing them with a centralized exchange. If both assets are already on NEAR, use a supported NEAR decentralized exchange (DEX) through a wallet. If you need to move between chains, NEAR Intents is a documented option: request a quote, review it, sign the intent with your account key, then publish it. In either case, verify the exact assets, network, quoted output, fees and execution terms in the live interface before signing.
Choose the route that matches where your tokens are

These routes are not interchangeable for every pair. Token support, interfaces, bridge availability and quotes change. NEAR Intents’ site reported more than $33 billion in all-time volume across 35 chains on October 7, 2026; that is a changing product-site figure, not evidence of liquidity, safety or a favorable quote for any particular swap. How do I swap tokens on NEAR?
If both tokens are already on NEAR
- Choose a current NEAR-compatible wallet from the NEAR wallet directory, then open a supported NEAR DEX interface. Check that the wallet and interface are genuine before connecting.
- Select the input and output assets. Confirm each asset’s network and exact identity in the interface; a ticker or token name alone may not distinguish similarly named assets.
- Enter the amount and inspect the live quote, including estimated output, fees, network costs, slippage or other execution terms, and any expiry or conditions shown.
- Review the transaction details in your wallet. Sign only if the asset, amount, route and terms match what you intend, then wait for the interface to confirm the result.
The wallet directory identifies itself as a gateway to the broader NEAR wallet ecosystem. Ref Finance is one ecosystem swap option, but its current interface and route details are not established here; rely on its live official interface rather than old instructions or forum fee figures.

If the swap involves another chain
- Check that NEAR Intents currently supports the exact input asset, destination asset and relevant chain. For an asset not already available to the route on NEAR, follow the supported deposit or bridge process first.
- Use the deposit address generated for your own account, asset and source chain. Do not copy an example address from documentation or send an unsupported token or a token over the wrong network.
- After sending, confirm the deposit appears in the interface before requesting or accepting a swap quote.
- Request a quote, verify the input and output assets, networks, amounts, estimated output, route fees and execution conditions, then sign only if the displayed details are acceptable.
- Publish the signed intent through the interface’s current flow and check for confirmation. Follow the consumer interface’s prompts; developer documentation examples are not a substitute for a live wallet flow.
NEAR’s deposit documentation says supported external-chain deposits and withdrawals use Omni-Bridge; the Intents Bridge documentation also describes a PoA Bridge alternative for some assets. What to check before signing
- Exact tokens and networks: Match the full asset identity and chain in the wallet and swap interface, not just the displayed ticker.
- Output and costs: Compare the quoted amount you expect to receive with route fees, network costs and any slippage or execution terms. No universal fee or output figure applies to every route.
- Quote validity: Quotes are time-sensitive. Check any expiry or execution conditions displayed, and request a fresh quote if the old one has expired or the route has changed.
- Route dependencies: A NEAR-native swap and a cross-chain Intents swap can involve different transactions and mechanisms. Cross-chain routes add bridge and supported-asset dependencies; Intents execution also depends on the route’s solver mechanism.
- Signature contents: Read the wallet prompt and confirm it corresponds to the action you initiated. Never give a seed phrase or private key to a site, support contact or purported solver.
Can I swap NEAR without an exchange?
Yes. A wallet-based DEX or supported NEAR Intents flow can let you swap without placing your funds on a centralized exchange. “Without an exchange” in this context means without using a centralized exchange; a DEX or swap service is still involved. Self-custody does not remove risks from wallet software, token contracts, bridges, solvers or mistaken transactions. A transfer to an unsupported asset or wrong chain may not be recoverable.
