These are practical recommendations based on documented game options—not a guaranteed build or record-setting strategy.
What the endless solo challenge is
The Ripatorium is DOOM: The Dark Ages’ arena mode. Bethesda introduced its Endless option in Update 2, alongside controls for selecting demon types and quantities, setting a time limit, and choosing City of Ry’uul, Village of Khalim or Harbor of Souls. An enemy respawn counter is also available. The mode has since gained additional encounter and recovery controls.

Set up a run you can learn from
Begin with a controlled encounter
For a practice run, choose a modest selection and quantity of demons, then add respawn waves gradually. Update 3 made the Ripatorium round-based, with up to five rounds and up to ten respawn waves per round. It also introduced Medium, Challenging and Sadistic encounter presets, which can be used alongside any difficulty level. A time limit is another option if you want a bounded practice session rather than an endurance run.

When the current setup feels sustainable, increase one source of pressure at a time—enemy quantity, wave count or preset intensity. The release notes document these controls but do not identify a universally best setup.

Choose controlled or continuous spawns
In the existing wave setup, enemies already present in a wave must be eliminated before the next respawn wave arrives. Update 4’s Ripatorium 3.0 adds continuous spawn mode, which brings demons back within rounds without waiting for every enemy in a wave to be defeated. Start with the more controlled pacing while learning an encounter; use continuous spawning when you deliberately want sustained pressure.
Keep recovery available while learning
Update 4 lets you configure health and ammo pickups as disabled, available once, or recurring on a five-minute timer. For a longer learning run, leave recovery enabled; switch to one-time or disabled pickups only when you want to practice under scarcity. Berserk has separate settings: disabled, once, five-minute respawns or unlimited.

The BFC ammo control ranges from zero to three. Treat it as another encounter setting to adjust intentionally rather than assuming a particular value is required for survival.
Use the Shield Saw to control danger
The Shield Saw is useful for both defense and offense. Bethesda’s gameplay guide says a well-timed parry reflects certain incoming attacks. Shield Charge works as an evasive maneuver and a battering ram, while throwing the saw can lodge its blades in demons to stun them or mow down lesser enemies. Heated enemy metal armor can also be struck with Shield Throw to create an explosion.

Use these actions to interrupt threats and create openings, rather than relying only on gunfire. The best response depends on the enemy and the attack; the documented mechanics do not establish one universally optimal combat sequence.

Bethesda says the in-game loading tip about melee refilling ammo appears more frequently after Update 2. That supports mixing melee into combat rather than treating guns as the only way to deal damage. Melee is a resource option, not a promise that every attack will refill a fixed amount of ammunition.

Adjust combat pressure if runs end quickly
If an encounter feels overwhelming, change the incoming threat or recovery settings before adding more enemies. The game includes an enemy projectile speed modifier, and resource values can change how much health, armor and ammunition pickups replenish. Update 3 also describes Brink of Death support: Normal provides recommended support, while Hard offers less support and makes surviving at low health more challenging.
Update 3’s end-of-run summary shows difficulty settings and kill counts for Fodder, Heavy and Super Heavy demons. Use the breakdown to identify whether a particular class or pressure setting is causing trouble, then adjust that part of the encounter for the next attempt. This is a useful way to focus practice, not an official prescribed training method.
What later updates add
Update 2.1 added health and ammo pickups to Ripatorium arenas and fixed a crash associated with too many enemy AIs. Update 4 expanded the encounter options and added Revelations Ripatorium content, which unlocks after completing the Master Arenas. It includes Hell’s Core, Osseus and Classic arenas; Revelations demons, including Leaders and Champions; a fully upgraded Revelations loadout; and six curated presets.
These additions provide more ways to vary practice, but the official notes do not rank an arena, weapon loadout or demon combination as the best choice for the longest run. For a focused endurance attempt, change settings with a clear purpose and use the end-of-run summary to guide the next adjustment.
