For a simple livestream with a host and one guest, use YouTube’s Go live together feature: the host sends an invite link, the guest joins a waiting room, and the host brings them on. You can rotate guests, but only one guest appears at a time. To show several remote people simultaneously, combine them into one outgoing program feed with production software or use an eligible Google Meet livestream.
Choose the right way to go live together
| What you need | Best fit | Key limitation or requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Host plus one visible guest, with a simple mobile setup | YouTube Go live together | Guests join by invitation link; only one guest is visible at a time, though the host can rotate guests. YouTube Help |
| Several remote participants shown together, with control over scenes and audio | Encoder and production software | The participants must be combined into the program feed by your chosen production setup. YouTube describes encoders for screens, gameplay, external audio/video hardware, and advanced productions. YouTube Help |
| A meeting broadcast to YouTube | Google Meet livestream | Requires an eligible Workspace edition or Google One subscription with at least 2 TB storage, an approved and connected YouTube channel, and channel access for the person starting the stream. Google Meet Help |
These options are not interchangeable. Decide whether everyone must be visible at once, how much production control you need, whether your accounts qualify, and how much setup the event can support.

Use YouTube Go live together for a host and guest
The built-in feature is the most direct route when one guest at a time is enough. The host manages the broadcast and guest access; the guest joins from a mobile device.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Start or schedule the livestream. On a mobile device, the host starts a new livestream and enables Go live together. Alternatively, schedule it from a computer in Live Control Room, then start it from a phone.
- Invite the guest. Create an invitation link and send it to the guest.
- Have the guest join. The guest opens the link on a mobile device, selects a YouTube channel, and enters the waiting room.
- Check the guest’s setup. The guest checks audio and video while waiting.
- Add the guest to the broadcast. The host receives a notification and adds the guest, then starts or continues the livestream.
- Manage the appearance. The host can remove a guest and rotate in another, but only one guest appears on the livestream at a time.
The guest cannot see the host’s livestream analytics. Ads on a Go live together stream are attributed to the host channel. YouTube says the host channel is responsible for the live content and should ensure guests and content comply with its terms, Community Guidelines, copyright policy, and other applicable policies. See YouTube’s Go live together guidance.

Show several people at once with an encoder or Meet
Encoder-based production
Choose an encoder workflow if several remote participants need to be on screen together, or if you need to control scenes, screen sharing, gameplay, or external audio and video. The encoder sends a single program feed to YouTube, so your chosen production setup must first bring the participants into that feed. YouTube’s encoder guidance covers external hardware and advanced productions, but the exact participant layout and controls depend on the software and equipment you choose. Review YouTube’s encoder guidance.
Google Meet livestream
Meet is an option when the event already runs as a meeting and the account and channel meet Google’s conditions. The available access is limited to listed Workspace editions and Google One subscribers with at least 2 TB storage. The YouTube channel must be approved and connected to the meeting, and the person starting the stream needs access to that channel. Check the current Meet settings and subscription eligibility before planning around this route: Google Meet livestream requirements.

Check eligibility and prepare before the event
- Confirm livestream access. YouTube’s general livestream guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have had a livestreaming restriction in the previous 90 days. It also says creators must be at least 16 to livestream. Go live together is described as available to eligible creators; YouTube’s surfaced guidance does not establish every feature-specific eligibility condition, so check whether the option appears on the host channel. YouTube livestreaming requirements.
- Allow time for an encoder setup. YouTube advises setting up at least two hours before an event and starting encoders at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start.
- Check the preview and monitor the broadcast. In Live Control Room, check the preview before the event and monitor audio and video quality while live. YouTube’s live encoder setup guidance.
- Agree on the guest plan. Decide who will join, when the host will bring each person in, and what to do if someone’s audio or video is not ready. This is especially useful when rotating guests or producing a group view.
Equipment: what you actually need
The mobile Go live together flow does not require a production-hardware purchase. For encoder production, equipment depends on the room, participant arrangement, and software. YouTube describes webcams, headphones, mixers, microphones, and multiple cameras as possible parts of an encoder setup; they are not all required for every stream. YouTube’s equipment and encoder guidance.

Common problems and what to check
- The host cannot find Go live together: confirm the channel can livestream, then check the option on the host’s mobile device. YouTube describes the feature as available to eligible creators, but not every feature-specific condition is established in its general guidance.
- The guest’s link does not lead to the waiting room: have the guest open the invitation on a mobile device, select a YouTube channel, and try again. The host can create and resend the invitation link.
- The guest is ready, but viewers cannot see them: the host must add the guest from the notification. Only one guest can appear at a time, so remove or rotate the current guest before bringing in another.
- The group needs to appear together: Go live together is not a simultaneous multi-guest layout. Switch to a production workflow that composes the group into one outgoing feed, or check whether an eligible Meet livestream fits the event.
- An encoder broadcast is not ready at start time: use the advance setup window YouTube recommends, start the encoder at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start, and check the Live Control Room preview and audio/video quality.
- The stream includes material that may violate policy: the host is responsible for guest conduct and stream content. Review YouTube’s applicable Community Guidelines, copyright policy, and other policies with guests before going live.
