Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsTo run prerecorded vertical videos as a 24/7 YouTube Live channel, send a continuous portrait feed from an encoder or cloud playout service, then choose a vertical layout in YouTube’s Live Control Room. You can stream vertical only or send both vertical and horizontal formats; decide before going live, because YouTube says you cannot add the vertical format after the stream has started. A reliable all-day broadcast also needs bandwidth headroom, monitoring, a recovery plan, and a decision about archives.
What you need before starting
A 24/7 broadcast is not just a vertical video uploaded to YouTube: an encoder or cloud playout service must keep sending the prerecorded feed to YouTube. First confirm the channel can go live. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16. First-time live activation can take up to 24 hours.
Use YouTube’s vertical live streaming guidance and its encoder setup instructions to check current availability and controls before configuring a broadcast.
- Portrait video assets, or a horizontal source you can crop or otherwise adapt to portrait.
- A continuous playout source: an encoder on a computer or a cloud service that can keep the video playing.
- The correct YouTube server URL and stream key for the format you plan to send.
- A plan for checking the stream, recovering from interruptions, and handling recordings longer than YouTube’s stated automatic-archive window.
Choose vertical-only or dual-format streaming
Vertical only
A vertical live presentation is designed for a full-screen mobile experience and may be discovered in YouTube’s Shorts feed. It is a natural fit when the source material is already portrait. YouTube notes that vertical streams lack some features available to horizontal streams, including clickable links in chat and channel descriptions, live ad midrolls and pre-rolls, and 4K bitrate streaming on the YouTube app.

Vertical and horizontal together
YouTube describes simultaneous 9:16 vertical and 16:9 horizontal delivery for streams started through Live Control Room. Available vertical layouts include center crop, fit to phone width, and stacked. A third-party encoder can send a separate vertical feed over RTMP(S) using the corresponding second stream key. Viewers of both formats share the same live chat; the dual-format stream uses one stream URL and one subscriber go-live notification. YouTube says separate vertical metrics become available 24 hours after the stream.
Dual format can preserve a conventional horizontal presentation while offering a portrait experience on mobile. Check how your actual content looks in each layout: cropping may cut off text, faces, or other important details. YouTube’s format and feature notes are in its vertical live streaming guidance.

Set up the vertical YouTube Live stream
- Enable live streaming and confirm eligibility. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and follow the prompts to enable live streaming if it is not already active. Allow up to 24 hours for initial activation. Confirm the channel is verified and has no live restrictions in the prior 90 days.
- Create or schedule the broadcast. Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and create a stream. Scheduling lets you promote the event ahead of time; an always-on broadcast still needs a playout source that remains connected and an operating plan.
- Select the output format and layout before starting. Choose vertical-only or dual format, then select the vertical layout that suits the footage. If using an encoder to send a separate vertical feed, choose RTMP(S) and the vertical stream key associated with that feed. Confirm that each output is assigned to its intended key. You cannot add the vertical format after the stream begins.
- Configure the encoder or playout service. Enter the YouTube server URL and the matching stream key in the encoder. For encoder setup details, follow YouTube’s instructions. Treat the key like a password: do not publish or share it, and reset it if you believe it has been exposed.
- Preview before going live. Check that the intended portrait framing, picture, and audio are reaching YouTube. For dual format, verify both outputs and their assigned keys before starting.
- Start the broadcast and keep watch. Confirm the live feed is playing as expected. For a continuous channel, arrange alerts or regular checks and know who will restart the feed if the encoder or connection stops.
Plan bandwidth, monitoring, and recovery
Your internet connection must sustain the combined outbound bitrate of the feeds you send. YouTube recommends keeping about 20% upload-bandwidth headroom above the stream’s needs. This is operating guidance, not a guarantee that a connection will remain stable. Check available upload capacity during the hours and conditions when the stream will run, and monitor the actual feed for dropped frames, interruptions, or audio and video problems. See YouTube’s live streaming tips.
YouTube recommends setting up the encoder in advance, previewing the stream, and continuously monitoring audio and video. For a genuine 24/7 channel, decide how an operator will be notified of a failure, whether the source can restart automatically, and how to verify that the stream has recovered. These precautions reduce the chance that an unnoticed encoder, network, or source failure leaves the channel offline; they do not guarantee uninterrupted service.

Know what happens to long live-stream archives
YouTube’s encoder guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume that a single continuous broadcast longer than 12 hours will produce an uninterrupted archive. If recordings matter, plan how to manage the broadcast and its recordings, and verify YouTube’s current behavior before relying on a particular split, restart, or archive workflow. The 12-hour statement is a platform limit described in YouTube’s encoder instructions, not a promise that every shorter stream will meet your archival needs.
Copyright and prerecorded content
Having permission to upload a video does not automatically mean you can broadcast it as a YouTube Live stream. Before scheduling, check that you have the necessary rights for the video, music, images, and other material in the stream, including any rights needed for a continuous public broadcast. Review YouTube’s current copyright and live-stream rules for your content and territory. Do not assume that looping a recording avoids copyright enforcement or other YouTube policies.

Common problems and fixes
- The vertical option or stream is unavailable: Confirm that live streaming is enabled, the channel meets eligibility requirements, and initial activation has had time to complete. If the feed is already live, YouTube says the vertical format cannot be added afterward; configure the format before starting.
- The portrait feed is cropped incorrectly: Recheck the chosen vertical layout and preview the actual feed. Keep important text and subjects within the area that survives the crop; use portrait source material when a crop cannot preserve the composition.
- The wrong format appears or one feed is missing: Check that the encoder is using the intended RTMP(S) configuration and the stream key for the matching format. Preview each output before starting.
- The stream buffers or drops: Compare total outbound bitrate with available upload capacity, retain the recommended roughly 20% headroom, and inspect the connection and encoder. Monitor the live feed rather than assuming a successful initial preview means it will remain stable.
- The stream stops and no one notices: Add monitoring or alerts and define who will respond, how the encoder or playout source will be restarted, and how to confirm recovery.
- No full archive appears for a long broadcast: YouTube’s stated automatic archiving applies to streams under 12 hours. Confirm current platform behavior and arrange an archive plan rather than depending on one longer live session.
Or let it run in the cloud
For prerecorded videos on YouTube, StreamNeo keeps a stream running from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops uploaded videos; it does not broadcast a camera feed. Every slot streams your upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo for details, then start the free first day.
