To loop multiple videos in OBS, add them to a VLC Video source, then enable Loop Playlist and Shuffle Playlist. Looping restarts the playlist when it ends; shuffle randomizes playback order. OBS does not document a guarantee that the last item in one cycle cannot be followed by that same item at the start of the next.
Set up a looping, shuffled playlist in OBS
- Install VLC. OBS requires VLC for its VLC Video source. If you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC. OBS lists the source for Windows, macOS, and Linux. See OBS’s Media Sources guide.
- Add the playlist source. In OBS, select the scene where the videos should appear. In the Sources panel, click + and choose VLC Video. Give the source a name if prompted.
- Add more than one media file. In the source’s properties, add the local video files to its playlist. The exact dialog layout may vary by OBS version; use the installed version’s VLC Video source properties.
- Enable both controls. Turn on Loop Playlist so playback restarts after the list runs out, and Shuffle Playlist so OBS randomizes the media-file order rather than following the listed order.
- Confirm playback in the scene. Close the properties and check that the source is visible and playing. If the source is hidden behind another source, move it above that source in the Sources panel or adjust the scene layout.
OBS documents Loop for its ordinary Media Source, which plays a local media file. For a multi-file playlist, use the separate VLC Video source, whose controls include Loop Playlist and Shuffle Playlist. The documented behavior of shuffle is random ordering; it is not a promise of a strict no-consecutive-repeat rule across playlist cycles. What “without repeating the same video” can mean
Randomized order
Shuffle Playlist randomizes the media files instead of preserving their listed order. This is the setting to use if you want variety in the sequence while the playlist loops.
A strict no-repeat guarantee
If you mean that the same file must never play twice in a row—including when playback crosses from the final item of one cycle to the first item of the next—the cited OBS documentation does not establish that Loop Playlist and Shuffle Playlist guarantee this. Treat shuffle as randomized ordering, not as a documented no-repeat scheduler.

OBS playlist controls versus YouTube’s playlist loop

YouTube’s player loop is a separate feature; it does not configure an OBS source. See YouTube Help: Loop videos or playlists on YouTube.
Keep playlist order separate from stream delivery
A YouTube stream key tells an encoder where to send its feed so YouTube can receive it. It does not determine the order of videos inside an OBS playlist. Configure playback in the VLC Video source; configure stream delivery separately in OBS and YouTube. See YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings.

Troubleshooting
- VLC Video is missing from the source menu: install VLC, then restart OBS. For 64-bit OBS, make sure the VLC installation is also 64-bit.
- The playlist stops after one pass: open the VLC Video source properties and enable Loop Playlist.
- The files always play in listed order: enable Shuffle Playlist. It randomizes order but does not document a strict no-repeat guarantee.
- You enabled YouTube’s loop but OBS still plays the same source item: YouTube’s playlist loop applies in the YouTube player, not to an OBS VLC Video source. Set the playlist controls in OBS instead.
- You changed the stream key expecting the playlist order to change: the stream key is for feed delivery. Change the source playlist or its shuffle setting in OBS.
